The forensics team began its season at the start of the school year. Here's a look at some of our old news:

Forensics Team (Old) News:

February 29, 2004 -

On Wednesday, during lunch, we will have a forensics meeting in Ms. Urband's room, 119E. We'll take a few minutes to talk about everone's interest in competing in the National Tournament. That won't last too long, then if you're able to stay, I am going to perform my finals-qualifying pieces. So, see you for a few (I'd say fifteen) minutes on Wednesday at lunch.

February 27, 2004 -

With the possibility of competing in the NFL's tournament, here's some good advice. Perhaps you need a new humorous monologue or poetry piece.Check out Mr. Hepner's advice on choosing your next forensics competition piece!

February 25, 2004 -

If you didn't get the e-mail, we have the opportunity to compete in the National Forensics League Qualifying Tournament in Washington, DC at the end of March. In a few days, we'll have a meeting to get feedback on the interest level of everybody who would like to compete in this tournament.

February 22, 2004 -

Nice job yesterday. Mr. Hepner will be bringing our ballots to Quince Orchard High School on Monday after school, probably around 3:30pm. You can either stop by at that time or pick up your scores on Tuesday. Depending on who makes finals in which categories, we may not be having another forensics meeting for awhile.

February 20, 2004 -

Check out Mr. Hepner's advice on choosing your next forensics competition piece!

February 19, 2004 -

February 17, 2004 -

This entire week we will be having individual practices every day during lunch and after school to work on your humorous monologue or poetry piece. If you want to arrange a time to meet, talk to Justin or Mr. Hepner. Mr. Hepner will be staying after school every day this week.

February 13, 2004 -

The small practices we've had this week are working really well. On Monday, we'll get together at someone's house for a short time. On Tuesday, lets have a regular, after school, forensics meeting in Ms. Urband's room, Room 119E. Your piece choices pieces should be definite by Monday. See you then!

February 9, 2004 -

We're going to have a forensics meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) after school. We will meet outside Room 119E, since Ms. Urband can't host us; instead, we'll practice in a nearby room.

February 4, 2004 -

The meeting we had on Monday went really well; however, we are a little behind in choosing pieces for the next competition, whether a humorous monologue, poetry piece, or other type of forensics piece. If you're in the one-act festival, don't worry about it. However everyone should have their piece(s) chosen by our next meeting on Tuesday, February 10th. Thank you.

January 30, 2004 -

Next monday after school we'll have a meeting in Ms. Urband's room, Room 119E. At that time, you should know which piece or pieces you want to perform for the February 21st competition. See you then!

January 28, 2004 -

By today you should know which category you want to compete in. By next week you should know which pieces you would like to perform. Decide whether you want a humorous monologue, poetry piece, or other type of forensics piece.

January 23, 2004 -

Decide on which category or categories you would like to compete in during the February 21st competition. The next meeting will be on next Thursday, January 29th. By that time, you should know which piece or pieces you would like to perform. See you then!

January 20, 2004 -

Our next meeting will now be on Thursday, January 22nd. After the fourth period exam, at 9:30 am, we'll meet in Ms. Urband's Room, that's Room 119E. The meeting will last until lunchtime, then everyone should get home around noon. We're going to look at the scores from the last tournament to get an idea of where to improve. Bring ideas for a humorous monologue or poetry piece. Until then.

January 15, 2004 -

The next meeting will be on Wednesday January 21st. This is after the seventh period exam at about 12:10pm. If you haven't picked up your scores, Ms. Urband has them in room 119E. At the next meeting, we'll talk about how we did versus how we expected to do as well as how to improve performances next time. If you have an idea of a humorous monologue or poetry piece that you would like to perform next time, bring that. See you then.

January 13, 2004 -

No meeting today, assuming our scores arrive tomorrow, that's when practice will be. We'll talk about how we did versus how we expected to do as well as how to improve performances next time. If you have an idea of a humorous monologue or poetry piece that you would like to perform next time, bring that. See you on Tuesday.

January 12, 2004 -

Good performances on Saturday. If our scores are in, we'll have a meeting on that day, whether it's Tuesday or Wednesday. After school, in Ms.Urband's room. See you then!

January 7, 2004 -

Small change, we will only be having five humorous monologue contestants rather than six. If anyone needs to practice we'll be working after school and during lunch on both Thursday and Friday. We'll be in Room 119E, Ms. Urband's Room, so feel free to stop by. Keep practicing, three days until Saturday.

January 4, 2004 -

We will have a forensics meeting on Tuesday after school in Room 119E, Ms. Urband's room. Make sure that you bring everything necessary for competition. If you have an extra copy of your monologue, or the original material for someone to look at, bring that too. See you after school on Tuesday.

December 30, 2003 -

Make sure you get a chance to practice over break. The competition is very soon. If Mr. Hempner dosen't know your piece, let him know before Monday. On Monday we will be registered. You should also type up your competition piece. Here is some advice for typing up your piece. See you on Monday.

December 23, 2003 -

Yesterday's meeting went well. If Mr. Hempner still dosen't know or hasn't heard your competition piece, let someone know. The January 10th competition is at Magruder High School. Directions to Magruder will be posted here. Check back for updates on meetings. Practice over break!

December 17, 2003 -

Next Tuesday, December 23rd will be an important practice. Everyone should have their competition piece(s) chosen by this day, since our coach needs to register us. You don't need to type up the pieces yet, however they should be photocopied. On Tuesday we will hear everyone's piece(s) in order to provide some feedback to practice with over winter break. See you on Tuesday!

December 12, 2003 -

The Forensics Team is looking for a sixth person to do humorous interpretation for our next competition. If you're interested, come to Ms. Urband's Room, room 119E, on Tuesday. Other new members are welcome, however this last humorous entry is especially important. We are going to have a short practice on Tuesday, December 16th.

December 7, 2003 -

Hey, don't forget to have atleast one piece chosen by Tuesday. I know it has been hard working because of the snow, but we want to be prepared for the January competition. Have fun sledding, see everyone on Tuesday.

December 3, 2003 -

The meeting yesterday went well. Since almost everyone has settled on their competition categories, everyone who is double entering should have atleast one piece picked by next week. We'll work on one piece per person for now then move up to two pieces next time. See you next Tuesday, make sure you bring atleast one competition piece.

November 26, 2003 -

Yesterday's meeting was productive. However, it's time to choose competition pieces for our winter competition. If you need help selecting a category, consult this web site. If you need help choosing a forensics piece, either e-mail or talk to someone on the Forensics Team. Have a good Thanksgiving!

November 23, 2003 -

Tuesday's a forensics day. We will have a meeting in Ms. Urband's room (Room 119E) after school on Tuesday. At this meeting, we will train on some harder, more serious, forensics categories. Again, this is another meeting where new people are welcome. You should also get a good idea of what category you would like to compete in on January 10th. See you after school!

November 19, 2003 -

The meeting went well yesterday. We went over some techniques for humorous interpretation, children's literature, and poetry. With some more time before the next competition, we'll continue to train using some of the more debate type categories such as Persuasive and Informative Speaking. If you want to get a head start, have a definite idea of the category or categories that you would like to compete in on January 10th. See you next Tuesday.

November 16, 2003 -

Let's have a regular meeting on Tuesday after school. We will be in Room 119E, Ms. Urband's room. If anyone new is interested in joining forensics, this is the meeting to attend. For the next few weeks, we will be training our voices, simply learning more techniques to speak effectivly. We'll wait to choose pieces and categories until early December, since our next competition is not until January 10th. See you on Tuesday!

November 12, 2003 -

The scores are in for the forensics tournament. Everyone did well, especially for the first meet of the season. We'll meet during lunch tomorrow (Thursday) to go over the scores and rankings. See you then.

November 11, 2003 -

Tomorrow, Wednesday, we will probably have our scores, either electronically or through regular mail. If we receive the paper scores (ballots) tomorrow, then we will meet during lunch. If we receive just the scores by e-mail, then we'll wait to have a meeting until we get the ballots.

November 9, 2003 -

Good job at Churchill yesterday. It was a long, successful competition. We should have our scores at some point this week, not exactly sure when though. When we do get the scores we will meet during lunch for awhile to talk. See you then.

November 6, 2003 -

Optional Forensics Team practice today at lunch and after school. Click here for directions to Churchill High School. We will be at Churchill between 7:45am and about 2pm. Good luck and get plenty of sleep to all those competing.

November 5, 2003 -

The first competition is only three days away. If anyone is interested in observing a round of the Forensics Team's competition, either show up at Churchill HS between 8am and 2pm, or talk to somebody in the Forensics Team about getting a ride. The Forensics Team had its last after school practice yesterday. During lunch today, Thursday, and Friday you can come to Room 119E, Ms. Urband's room, to work on your piece. Our coach will also be at Quince Orchard HS on Thursday after school, so that's another day you can work on your piece. Good luck!

November 2, 2003 -

Hope everyone had a good weekend. With six days until competition time, we're going to take advantage of the half days on Monday and Tuesday. Right after lunch, everyone can get something to eat and then we'll start training for this competition. Bring a typed copy of your competition piece(s). Also, don't forget to print out a couple of copies of your piece. If your piece requires an introduction, type that up too. See you after lunch on Monday!

October 30, 2003 -

Our coach needs your final selections for the forensics competition by Friday. By tomorrow, you must know both the categories that you're competing in as well as the material that you would like to perform. We'll be meeting frequently over the next ten days in case anyone needs help with getting their piece ready. See you on Monday!

October 27, 2003 -

Counting down to two weeks until our first competition. Four days a week, Monday through Thursday, our coach will be at Quince Orchard HS. He will be available specifically for the Forensics Team on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Official Forensics Team meetings will continue to be once a week - on Tuesdays.

October 23, 2003 -

Only 2 1/2 weeks until our first competition. It looks like we've got people competing in almost every category besides informative speaking. If you know (for sure) the piece that you want to compete with, start typing it up this weekend. Click here to look at some advice for typing your competition piece. See you on Tuesday!

October 9, 2003 -

Starting this week, we're having regular Tuesday after school practices. Always in Room 119E, Ms. Urband's room, right after school. Good news - Quince Orchard HS now has a link going to the forensics site. See you on Tuesdays!

Next Tuesday, October 7th, will be our first after school meeting. We'll be in room 119E (Ms. Urband's room) at 2:15. Our coach is going to drop by on Tuesday from 3:30 - 4:30. If you know your competition material bring that, otherwise we'll have books that you can use to try some pieces out. See you on Tuesday!

September 26, 2003 -

Next Tuesday we'll have a meeting during lunch. Ms. Urband has some material for those interested in children's literature and humorous interpretation. We'll also have some stuff for dramatic interpretation, for anyone interested. See you in room 119E (Ms.Urband's Room) on Tuesday.

September 4, 2003 -

The Forensics Team website is up and running. You can now view competition categories as well as scheduled competition dates. The coach's meeting was last night, so the competition dates should be posted soon.

September 2, 2003 -

Fifty seven people have signed up to show that they're interested in the Debate and Forensics Team. Excellent turn out, we only had about thirty signatures last year.
