How the heck can I play?

Heres how you play:

First step is the dozy.  If you already know what IRC is and how to connect to Austnet you can skip this step, and go on to Q&D commands

You need an IRC program.  IRC is Internet Relay Chat.  Inter Relay Chat is where you can use a program on your computer (called an IRC client), to connect to another computer (called a IRC server) along with tens of thousands other people.  Once connected you can 'chat' or type messages to each other similar to email or  ICQ..  Or play sounds, swap files and much more.  And if you connect to the right place and at the right time you can also do Q & D fighting!

You can use mIRC to play.  In fact that are lots of programs that you can use but I'm only going to write about mIRC.  Most other programs will be similar, and once you have joined the #QDRPG it shouldn't matter very much what program you use.  You can get mIRC HERE.  (Mac users can try Ircle here.)

Download It & install it.  This is done by opening (often double-clicking) the file you just downloaded.  When you first run mIRC you will be presented a screen much like this one.

Fill out the information it wants, make sure that Austnet is selected and press connect.

You should eventually see a heap of text scroll past in your status window telling you really interesting stuff like connection counts and MOTD.   Sometimes it will take a while to connect, and some days/nights better than others.  Now you should see a menu up the top of the window near File and Edit called Commands.  Select Join Channel and in the next box type #QDRPG.

Hopefully dicebot is there in the channel, or at least some one.  Soon your will click here for a screen shot of what it should look like.

yada yada - I'll keep on with this later.  Honest.  I love writing help files.

On to the battle commands
