One Day when Serena was rushing to school hoping she wouldn't be late again, she saw some boys hurting a little black cat, she came to the cats rescue, and noticed that it had bandages on it's forehead. Serena removed the bandages to reveal a strange marking resembling a crescent moon, then she ran off realizing that she was going to be late for school.
  
Later that day Serena got a test back with a big red 30 written on it, She was in a really bad mood and Melvin didn't help, he was upset because he only got a 95 and his parents would be upset. As Serena was walking home she crumpled up the test and tossed it, but it hit Darien on the head he looked at it, and laughed " A 30...Are you stupid or just incredibly lazy"
  
When Serena finally got home and against her better judgement, showed her mother the test.  Her mother got very mad and told Serena to go to the library and study.
  
Later on Serena was in her room moping when the black cat with the strange marking went into Serena's room through the window. Serena was kind of surprised, especially when the cat began to talk to her. Serena decided this was just a dream and when the cat told her that her best friend Molly was being attacked by a monster from the Negaforce Serena played along and took the pin that the talking cat named Luna and held it in the air saying "Moon Prism Power!" she transformed into Sailor Moon and saved Molly and the others.
Serena doesn't have many qualities that make for a superheroine; she is a clumsy, lazy schoolgirl.   However, her positive qualities, such as her cheerfulness and innocence makes up for it.  She comes from a normal family of 4 including one annoying brother.  Darien gave the nickname, Meatballhead, to describe her distinctive hairstyle. Being Sailor Moon is more of a growing experience for her. She loves to eat, read comics, play games at the arcade, and chase after guys, especially Tuxedo Mask.She is indeed an ordinary girl with normal dreams and intelligence. But that is all before Luna, a talking black cat with a half moon symbol on her forehead, appeared.

Serena discovered her destiny as Sailormoon when Luna, a talking black cat, confronted her when she was rushing to school.
This occurs in episode 1 - a moon star is born
