| Jesus of Nazareth: Actually, the title here is pretty self-explanatory. It tells the story of Christ from his birth to the ressurection. The movie is about six hours long, but it's very much worth watching. I think this is Robert's best performance!! When I first saw this movie (this is the first movie I ever saw with him) I was so impressed with Robert's perception of the role. And he never blinks once! I strongly recommend this one. ********************************************************************** About this film everything has been said!! It's beautiful though it's not my favourite. I have to confess to you something really funny: In 1990 I've fallen in love with Robert Powell by the tv series "Hannay", since I've sought every film about him. Two years later I was watching tv with y family and we saw that a mini-series entitled Jesus of Nazareth was going to start so I was going to turn off the tv (I don't like too much of that stuff) but when I saw ROBERT POWELL AS JESUS; ooooh, I shouted like crazy! I felt so dirty, a big sinner! I'm catholic, and it was a little difficult for me to accept that the love of my life was playing jesus in such a convincing way that when you see him you really think he is Jesus!!! So I watched it, but not very well, closing my eyes, I couldn't accept it easily. It took me some years to watch Jesus of Nazareth without feeling ashamed. I think he has done better, but everyone reminds him for that, and when I'm speaking about him I always have to say "the actor who played Jesus" and then everyone knows who I was talking about! *Written by Gisela Esparza* Mahler This movie tells the story of the famous Austrian composer Gustav Mahler. The movie is not so much a biography- it mainly focuses on Mahler's bumpy relationship with his wife, his rejection of Judaism, and his obsession with death. Ken Russel directed this film, os it's very abstract and a litte, well...weird. But the cinematography is really good. The whole movie takes place on a train where Mahler and his wife Alma are leaving Vienna. Mahler has a series of flashbacks about his life, while his wife is trying to make him understand that he's overshadowing her. This is a good movie, mainly because it's got Robert in it. And...if you wanna hear Robert sing- *smile*- then you should definitely watch this movie. And Robert looks so good black!! Jude the Obscure This movie is based on Thomas Hardy's famous novel. It tells about Jude Fawley, a stone mason who dreams of becoming a priest. He mmets his long-lost cousin, Sue Bridehead, and eventually they fall in love. Problems arise when Sue marries Jude's old school master, then runs off and lives with Jude. This movie is slightly twisted in a way- it's really depressing. The acting is so-so, save Robert's performance (of course, he was great), but the cinemography could be a lot better. I don't highly recommend this movie unless you're a big fan of Robert- I only watch is because he does a really good job in it. Tommy I didn't enjoy this movie so much because Robert didn't have that big of a part in it- Tommy is an adaptation of the rock-opera written by the music group "The Who". The story is about a boy named Tommy who is traumatized into being blind, deaf, and dumb after witnessing his father's (guess who?) murder by his mother and her lover. Tommy is later discovered to be a "pinball wizard" and, once hs is cured of his blind, dumb, and deafness he is seen as a Messiah figure. There is no talking whatsoever in this movie- it's all singing. Robert only appears in the prologue and is shown going down in a plance crash, and a little later into the movie he's shown getting hit over the head with a lamp. I don't think the movie itself was that great- it needed a little something we call a "plot". Hoever, if you're interested in watching Ann-Margaret frolicking in beans, soap, and chocolate or seeing Elton John in a pair of shoes about twice his height, then this is the movie for you. |
