All the women who attended the triennial Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women in Louisville, KY agree it was a powerful experience; each woman's story is different; adjectives describing The Gathering are unique -- because there were so many opportunities to learn, make friends, and explore what it means to be a Presbyterian Woman.

Please take the time to visit the Gathering website. There are many resources available:
the music we sang
new mission opportunities
highlights of the Business Meeting
transcripts of some from some of the Plenary Sessions.

Celebration Corners, or "the Great Room," was once again a wonderful place to decompress, meeting friends, enjoy some hands-on activities, and shop.
Early in 2006 our PWP sent over 150 1" quilt squares to Susan Barnes in Oregon.
Early in 2006 our PWP sent over 150 1" quilt squares to Susan Barnes in Oregon. Here is part of the Ordination Celebration quilt she created with squares received from PW all over the country!

Kids of the Ark was one of the camp-style programs offered for children at the Gathering. 'Becca of New Jersey and Caty of Delaware enjoyed "energizers," a trip to the zoo, camp fun, and an ice cream treat in Celebration Corners.

SHOES and SOCKS -- Necessities in Life's Journey

We are grateful to all who responded to the request for children's shoes:

Bergenfield: 39 pairs
Hackensack: 3 pairs
Teaneck: 56 pairs
Ridgewood, West Side: over 150 pairs!
(did you bring shoes to the Gathering or donate shoes to an agency in our community? Let us know!)
As of Sunday evening July 9th, 7,210 pairs of shoes, over 40,000 pairs of socks and $536.00 in cash donations had been counted

Diane Nafash and Abbie Slaman enjoyed tremendously becoming friends with two women from Kenya, Rose Mutegi and Odrine Njeru, and the Rev. Marion Strain, the mission worker who traveled with them.

The PWP-Palisades Coordinating Team voted earlier to send some money to Hudson River Presbytery to help with the costs to bring Rose (Elder, Clerk of Session and Secretary of the Presbyterian Women's Guild of Chuka, Kenya) and Odrine (Deacon, Treasurer of the Women's Guild and Kind Mothers Organization which cares for orphans) to the Churchwide Gathering. They are teachers at at Ikuu Girls' School, and upon meeting us, thanked Diane and Abbie for our Presbytery's modest donation by presenting a gift of a lovely piece of artwork made from banana leaves.

2005 and 2006 marked a series of events commemorating the anniversaries of the ordination of women as Deacons, Elders and Ministers of the Word and Sacrament.

The Women's History Room illustrated the time line of women's history in ministry, and the Plenary Sessions on Monday celebrated these Anniversaries.

Thanks to Diane Nafash for her photographic essay of the Gathering.
