William W.Smith was born on the 18th of November 1840 in Three Oaks Mich.

At enlistment he indicated his home as being Berrien Co. He enlisted, at age 21, as a Privat. He enlisted on the 9th of September 1861 (9/13/1861) in Niles Michigan.

He was Mustered Out, with teh rest of the regiment, on the 28th of July 1865 at Delaney House Dc.

Last Reported Residence at Three Oaks Mich. He passed of old age at that location on the 22nd of August 1924. He was laid to rest Posey Chapel Cemetery in Galena Township, LaPorte County, Indiana on the 25th of August. He rests under a Pvt Stone in Grave # 5; Lot # 6.

On his headstone he is indicated as being a Sgt. so he may have been promoted at some period.
