The Kauffman Hotel  was one of the first hotels to be built in Bern, Kansas. 'Mac' is on the portch with his hand on the porch post. The Hotel was destroyed by fire in 1899.

Most of the pictures on this page were prepared by Susie Rebecca Kauffman as a 1906 Christmas present to her aunt Sue Kauffman (Mac's sister) who lived  in Luray, Page County, Virginia. Susan Elizabeth Kauffman was born 10 October 1848 and died 16 Nov 1907 in Page County, Virginia.
Alveda Harter Burner was the sister of Sarah Luemma
Sarah L. Harter Kauffman , Ora Genevieve Burner, Alveda Ann Harter Burner, Susie Rebecca Kauffman, and Etna Zalene Burner in 1906 at Sycamore Spring, Kansas. Alveda was Sarah Luemma's sister.  The Burners, Kauffmans, Lionbergers, Maucks, etc. were all related.
