Genetic Update:

Our Chapter is located in Georgia’s Dairy Capital. Our members have bred, raised, and shown cattle for many, many years. In 1993 our Chapter began our journey in the registered Holstein business after being donated an embryo by H. R. Bennett, DVM. We have also received a donated embryo from Bill Slade, and the donation of heifers by Lott Holsteins and Terry Embry. From each of these embryos/females we are developing a cow family. The females resulting from this program are generally cared for by our members and housed in our school facility. The lactating cows are housed at local dairies.

Hurracane Family

A single embryo was donated to our Chapter by H. R. Bennett DVM, a member of a syndicate owning the famous cow "Pappy’s Hurracane". The embryo was implanted in 1993. The pregnancy that resulted produced an outstanding heifer "S-Robins-Nest Hurracane-ET. By Townson Lindy out of a Skybuck that was nominated All-American, "Baby Cane" as we call her has had an outstanding show career and has matured into an EX90 –EX MS cow. She is now a permanent flush cow for our Chapter and the matriarch of our first cow family. "Baby Cane" is housed at Southern Manor Embryo Service. We have retained her daughter PC-FFA Encore Hollie-ET by Marcrest Encore. Hollie will be bred to Innwood Terrason for a March 2004 calf.

Maggie Family

A second embryo was donated to the Chapter and also resulted in a heifer – Dixie-Ridge Juror Maggie-ET. Maggie is by Ked Juror and out of an excellent Rotate. Unfortunately we lost Maggie to calving complications in the spring of 2001. We have retained PC-FFA Rubens Mandy to continue this family. Mandy is a VG 85 two year old that we are really excited about. Mandy was second senior two year old at the Georgia National Dairy show and the Clemson Spring Dairy Show.

Kaycee Family

Gatmar Outside Kaycee was purchased as an embryo by Terry Embry of Eatonton, Georgia. She has been subsequently donated to our FFA Chapter. Born 9-23-00, we are very excited about the potential of this young cow by Outside and out of an excellent Inspiration.
