Animal abuse is wrong, whether it's on petz or real animals. But petz can always run away and they are by no means living and breathing. Abusing real animals is much much worse. Even though you might not think so, animals have feelings. They feel happiness, sadness, fear, etc. They are helpless and since they can't speak, we should be their voices. If you suspect animal abuse at all, call the cops because animal abuse and neglect IS illegal. As the police who to contact about it.
Also, if you decide to ever get a real dog or cat, you should adopt one from the pound. Across the country, thousands of animals are put to sleep every day! You could help save them!
