That is why each Pure Rain over Texas system is a custom experience. We want to talk with you to determine what you want in a rainwater system. We want to let you guide us to provide you with the best Rainwater system you can possibly have. Some of the questions we will ask are, how many members of your family will be drinking out of your Pure Rainwater system. Do you believe you will use an average amount of water (20 gallons per person per day) or should your system be designed with more capacity (30 gallons per person per day). What area of the country do you live in? Do you know the average rainfall? Do you know the longest period of drought on record for your area? (Don't worry about the last two questions if you do not know them already, our professionals will be glad to find out those answers for you! What is the approximate square footage of your house? Does your house have 1, 2, 3 or more stories? How large is the square roof footage of your home? Do you want to use your rainwater system to landscape your yard and water your surrounding grass, shrubs and trees? Let's take a look at some of the components of your Pure Rainwater System. Components Each Pure Rainwater system contains many components some of the major ones are water storage tanks, a roof water discard system, a ultra-violet water purification system, at least 2 filters including a 10 and 5 micron filters, a Carbon Absorption Filtration system, and a pressure tank to provide you with water pressure throughout your whole house. Well, now that we have an idea of what a Pure Rainwater system entails lets take a look at what we will go through together in designing your system. Each system will be specialized for your family and your place of business or home. The first thing to consider when designing a whole house rainwater system is what is the average rainfall where I live? If you live in the Austin, Texas area like Joel does you receive anywhere from 28" to 36" of rain every year a moderate system will normally suffice. To estimate your water storage needs take each person and estimate approximately 15 to 50 gallons per day water usage. (Remember average city and well water use runs 40 to 75 Gallons per day per person! You will only be able to reach 15 to 50 gallons per day by using specialized low flush toilets and low usage faucets and water fixtures throughout your home!) For a family of 4 that would be about 60 to 200 gallons a day. Next find out the longest drought on record for the Texas Hill Country that is about 93 days. Let's take a look at the Robert's family Pure Rainwater system for an example. An Example John and Sue Roberts live on a small 1 and half acre lot west of Austin in the Hill Country. They built their two story home for comfort and convenience. Their two small children Amy 6 and Jacob 9 live with them. They have a modest 1 story home with approximately 2000 square footage of space. The average roof coverage is about 2000 square foot as well. If you don't know your roof square footage don't despair. Simply take your bottom story house square footage and go from there. Assuming you don't have a huge hole in your roof that approximation should work fine. Now lets say that the year before the Robert's installed their Pure Rainwater system they knew that their house had received 31 inches or rain. Now John being a reasonable husband and provider wanted to know just how much water he could collect on his 2,000 square foot of roof. Well let's take the number of inches of rain times about a half of a gallon of water (.5 gallons). That would be about 15.5 gallons of water per square foot. Now during that year if we take that times the Robert's 2,000 square roof area that's 31,000 gallons for the year. Wow, thought John that's an lot of water. Well, it does sound like a lot. But John hadn't thought about just how much water his family would be using. Since John's children are young let's estimate their water usage on the average of 25 gallons per day per person. When we take that times 4 we get 100 gallons per day. Then we need to take 100 by 30 and we get 3000 gallons per month then times 12 and we get 36,000 gallons per year for the Robert's family. Oh yeah don't forget those extra 5 days for a total water approximate usage of 41,000. Now to get things rolling John wants to be prepared for the longest drought in history for the Texas Hill Country a whopping 100 days. John takes his average water usage of 100 times 100 and gets starting water usage of 10,000 gallons. With 10,000 gallons John and his family possibly could last a 100 days of drought. This example would give us the following specifications for John.
