1. When dreaming I'm guided through another world
Time and time again
At sunrise I fight to stay asleep
2. 'Cause I don't want to leave the comfort of this place
'Cause there's a hunger, a longing to escape
From the life I live when I'm awake
So let's go there
Let's make our escape
Come on, let's go there
Let's ask can we stay?
Can you take me higher?
To the place where blind men see
Can you take me higher?
To the place with golden streets
3. Although I would like our world to change
It helps me to appreciate
Those nights and those dreams
But, my friend, I'd sacrifice all those nights
If I could make the Earth and my dreams the same
The only difference is
To let love replace all our hate
4. So let's go there
Let's make our escape
Come on, let's go there
Let's ask can we stay?
Up high I feel like I'm alive for the very first time
Up high I'm strong enough to take these dreams
And make them mine
Reflection
Higher
1. This portion of the song is probably how a lot of people feel after a dream. Our dreams, simply stated, are what we want the world to be. Scott Stapp, the lead singer for Creed, does not want to leave his dreams.
2. Stapp says that he doesn't want to leave his dreams, something is missing his life when he is awake. He wants to escape this world, and go to the perfect place. A place where blind men see and golden streets are heaven. He is asking people to go there with him, not to die I believe, but to make the world we live in heaven.
3. If the world changed into the perfect world, humans would no longer need dreams. So because we live in a world like this, we can appreciate what we want, and what we dream of. Nevertheless, the world of our dreams would gladly replace the world of now for Stapp, eventhough he would lose those dreams. What Stapp wants to replace is love for hate in this world.
4. Stapp wants to escape from this world, and when he reaches the higher place, he changes. He feels full of life. He finally makes his dreams a personal reality.
This is what Scott Stapp says the meaning is:
Higher
is about a dream Stapp had where he was having a re-occuring
dream that someone was chasing him - trying to kill him. He would always
turn
right and the person would end up catching him. Then Stapp heard about a
thing called lucid dreaming and decided to try it with this dream. It
worked - he was able to turn left in the dream and escape the killer.
