History

In the Fall of 2002, Yvonne Truong had a goal of trying to form an outspoken and active Asian-interest sorority on Purdue University’s, West Lafayette campus. Soon after, Frances Dao, Diana Tran, Venus Tse and Theresa Uy joined Yvonne Truong in her mission. It then became a reality that these girls also shared the same aspirations in bringing such an organization to the campus. On November 11th 2002, they officially initiated the interest group, A.S.I.A; Asian Sorority Interest Association.

At the first A.S.I.A call out in January 2003, eight other girls, Valaipetch Charoensombut-Amorn, Diana Lee, Nana Lee, Kimberly Pulmano, Jennifer Wang, Andreal Wu and Angel Zhang joined the group. Together, these twelve diverse and strong women established A.S.I.A, and formed the alpha Kappa Delta Phi interest group. The goals and visions of this nationally recognized sorority, which included sisterhood, leadership, scholarship, Asian awareness, and service, was exactly what was desired and needed at Purdue University.

The Purdue University Charter Pledge Class promised to uphold the traditions and goals of the sorority. Although just the beginning, the charter pledge class was determined to reach their goal of eternal sisterhood. With the aid of Bindu Varghese, and the University of Illinois, Chicago, as host chapter, the charter pledge class sought to build the unbreakable bond of sisterhood.

On October 25, 2003 these twelve women, became the Purdue University alpha Kappa Delta Phi Charter Class. Purdue University at West Lafayette became the newest alpha Kappa Delta Phi colony, the thirty-sixth chapter of alpha Kappa Delta Phi, Sorority Inc. Each of these young women pledged to work hard to break stereotypes, build bonds with other Greek organizations on campus, and to continue the values and traditions of the sorority.
