Summer Secrets
Chapter 9
"Summer, I'm going to go now.  I'll be back later. Okay?" JC said before he walked out the door.  Summer was quietly sitting on the couch flipping channels.

"Okay." Summer said with a completely fake smile.  Of course, JC was too far away to notice.

"Bye.  Oh yeah and my SUV is out there in case you want to go somewhere I don't know where but it's there just in case." JC said and looked over at her.  She nodded, waved, and turned back to the TV hiding the hurt in her eyes.  He glanced over at her and wanted to be sitting next to her.  He looked over one more time and closed the door.  He turned the car on and looked back to his house.  He could see the light shining from the window.  He took a deep breath and put the car in reverse gear and pulled out of the driveway.  He looked over with a longing glance and put the car in drive and sped off.

With in 20 minutes he was at the door step of Erin's apartment.  He rang the doorbell and nervously fiddled with his hands and he waited for her to open the door.  After a while the door opened and Erin was more beautiful than ever.  Her long black hair was neatly brushed with every layer showing.  Her deep green eyes shone like newly polished emeralds, while her clear skin glowed in the light.

"Hey" JC said with a smile.

"Hi" She said and brushed her full glossy on JC's cheek.  "Let me just grab my purse."

JC waited patiently as she grabbed her purse.  His palms were beginning to sweat from nervousness, but he couldn't understand why.  He had been out with Erin before.  They had dated off and on for 2 year.  He had slept with her.  Why should he be nervous?  Before he knew it Erin was out the door and ready to go.  They headed to JC's car.  He brought the Viper.  Erin liked expensive things like that.

"Where are we going?" Erin asked with her perfect smile.

"The Odyssey." He replied and continued to drive.  The Odyssey was a very expensive restaurant with a view of the entire city.  Anyone who was anyone went to the Odyssey.  It was where famous, rich and important people went.  Erin simply smiled in return and JC continued to drive.

Summer sat in front of the TV as JC walked out the door.  As soon as the door shut and locked a tear began to roll down her cheek.  She quickly wiped it away.

"I shouldn't be crying!" She scolded herself.  "There's no point!"  Unable to control herself she let it all out and cried.  She cried for a while and let the tears flow freely down her now wet cheeks.

"I have to stop." She told her self.  She sniffed and wiped the tears away.  She remembered him as he walked out the door.  His hair was done perfectly and the black shirt he wore fit him so perfectly it made her wonder if he was real.  She sniffed once more and headed to get the ringing phone.

"Hello?" She answered in her soft normal voice.

"Hey Summer right?"

"Yes.  Who is this?" Summer asked a little confused.

"Hi This is Eve from across the street.  I was wondering if JC had any sugar I could borrow.  Is he there?" She asked knowing very well that he had just left.

"Um no he isn't here right now, but I can get you some if you would like."

"Oh would you! Thank you.  You're such a doll.  I'll be right over." Eve said and hung up the phone.  Within a minute the doorbell rang and nosey neighbor Eve stood straight and talk in front of Summer.

"Come in." Summer said.

"Where's JC?" Eve asked curiously.

"He had a date or something." Summer explained in her usual voice, but there was something there.  Perhaps a hint of resentment.

"Oh that's too bad."

"Why?" Summer asked.

"Well, because I just thought that you and him were you know."

"No I don't know." Summer said and raised an eyebrow.

"I thought you were together." Eve said a bit cautiously.

"No we're just friends." Summer explained and headed toward the kitchen to get Eve some sugar.  "How much?"

"Just a cup." She smiled. Summer got some sugar and put it in a Ziploc bag.  She then handed it to Eve.

"Here you go." She said.

"Thank you.  You know you and JC would be wonderful together." Eve said with a wide grin.

"Yeah... right... JC?" Summer said with a laugh.

"What's wrong with JC?"

"Nothing is wrong with JC."  Summer said.

"Then what's the problem?"

"JC dates models and beauty queens.  Not regular girls like me." Summer laughed as they headed toward the door.

"Oh well you never know." Eve said once they reached the door.  She stepped outside and smiled. "Thanks!"  Summer watched as the lady turned around and headed to her house.  Summer looked at the clock on JC's wall and decided that what was really wrong with her was she was hungry.  After looking in the refrigerator for a while and finding nothing she grabbed the keys to the Jeep and headed out to buy food.

After driving not too far, because she didn't want to get lost,  she found a small take-out Mexican restaurant and walked in.  After ordering she grabbed her drink and sat down at a small table in the corner as she waited. She looked out the window and watched all the cars go by.  As usual she was thinking of JC.  She turned back to the restaurant and saw a very familiar person waiting not too far from her.

"Hey, You're Jessica right?" Summer asked the brown haired girl she had seen at dinner with Landon.

"Yeah, You're Summer"  Jessica said a bit pissed off.  Summer immediately caught the tone. "Where's your friend?"

"JC? He is on a date or something." Summer explained trying to stay nice.

"Oh that's too bad." Jessica stated bitterly.  Summer gave her a look that totally said 'why are you being mean to me?'  "Well you better not think you're getting Landon."

"What?"

"Landon is mine.  You better just lay off.  Why would he want you? You aren't even pretty." Jessica said with a harsh tone.  Summer just looked at her blankly though on the inside her stomach was churning and she felt hurt.

"I don't want Landon." She said defensively.

"Yeah, right.  Who doesn't want Landon? He's perfect.  And he's mine." Jessica said.

"Number 8"  The server said before Summer had a chance to reply to her.  "That's me" Jessica said smiled sweetly then walked away.  Summer stared at her as she walked away and couldn't believe it.  Why would anyone be so mean?  She had never done anything to her.  She was just in love with Landon.  Summer understood that.  She had never met Erin and she already hated her.

Before she knew they called her number and she was off.  She went into JC's car still feeling hurt and wanting to cry.  Why would Landon want me? He is pretty much perfect. She thought.  I'm not pretty.  No guy would want me.  That's why I haven't had a real boyfriend.

Summer got to JC's house and by the time she was there she couldn't eat.  All that could come out of her was the gallons of tears that flowed down her face endlessly.  She went up to her room and lay on the bed.  She didn't realize it but soon after she had cried herself to sleep.

"JC I had a wonderful time tonight." Erin said with a smile once they were on her doorstep.

"Me too" JC smiled, although the whole night he had been thinking of Summer.

"Do you want to come in?" Erin asked a bit seductively.

"Erin, maybe we should take it slower this time." JC suggested. "I just don't want to ruin anything we might have."

"Oh ok." Erin answered softly. "Well good night then." She said and kissed him lightly on the lips.  She walked in her apartment smiling and JC went back to his car.  He drove home wishing those lips that had just made contact with his were Summer's.

He walked in the house to find it empty.  Summer wasn't anywhere.  He slowly crept upstairs and knocked on the door.  She didn't answer so he opened the door.  The sheets were pulled back, the lights were on, and Summer was peacefully sleeping on the bed.  He watched her as she slept.  To him she looked so peaceful and beautiful.  We walked over to her and knelt down next to her.  He pulled the sheets up to her chin and softly kissed her forehead.  He then got up and turned the lights off.  He walked to the door and opened it he turned around and looked at her once more.  Before walking out the door he said "Sweet dreams."
