Summer Secrets
Chapter 8
JC got up from the couch to get the door.  It was 7:30 and the sun was still up.  He opened the door and saw Summer standing there with her usual smile that completely mezmorised him.

"Hey"  She said and walked passed him.

"Hey" He said pushing thoughts he shouldn't have been thinking away.  "Did you have fun?"

"Yeah, they're really... let's just say they're enthusiastic." Summer said with a laugh.

"Oh yeah I know.  They're loud.  They laugh.  They talk about extremely personal things, and they don't care." JC said with a laugh. "What did you do all day?"

"Well they took me to this spa, which was cool, they massage you until you're all squeezed out then they do your nails and stuff." Summer said and held up her newly manicured hand.  "Then we went shopping and to lunch and stuff."

"Sounds like fun." He said not very appealed by the whole deal.

"Yeah.  What did you do all day?" Summer asked and plopped down on the couch.

"I went to Joey's" JC said and sat down next to her on the couch. "Then I came back here and I watched TV, and then I pulled out a cook book and made Creme Brulee."

"Are you serious?" Summer asked.  When he nodded she burst out laughing.  "You were playing Betty Crocker!"

"You wanna try it?" JC asked with a grin knowing how much she absolutely loved Creme Brulee (it's a french dessert, kinda like custard with a hard thingy on top it's really good).

"Yeah!" Summer said laughed. JC got up and walked into the kitchen.  Summer soon followed him.  He pulled a small bowl out of the refridgerator.  He grabbed a spoon from the drawer and placed the cold dessert in front of her.  She looked at it and it didn't exactly look like the ones in cook books.  She dug the spoon through the crunchy surface and into the soft custard, leaving a small portion on the spoon.  She then popped it in her mouth.  As it melted in her mouth she looked at JC and smiled.

"This is delicious." She said and took another bite.

"Thank you." He said and watched her enjoy.  He loved the way her nose moved a bit as she ate and how she licked her lips and self conciously wiped the corners of her mouth.

"What made you want to make this?" She asked.

"I know you love it." He said a bit embarrased unsure of why exactly he told the truth.  He looked away from her.  Summer didn't know what to say.  She knew how hard it was to make Creme Brulee, the simple sweet gesture made her heart soar and her feeling toward the man in front of her grow deeper and stronger inside of her.

"Thank you." She said softly and gave in to her urges.  She leant over and kissed him softly on the cheek. JC didn't know how to react.  He could not believe.  It wasn't like she had never kissed his cheek before but now it was all different.  Now he had a want for her, a need for her.  He looked over at her as she sat back in her chair and took another bite of the cold dessert.  JC didn't say anything and neither did Summer.  They were caught in an uncomfortable silence.  That was until the phone rang.

"Hello?" JC answered, his face completely changed when he heard who was on the phone.  "Yeah hold on." He said and then handed the phone to Summer.

"Hello?... Hey!... Yeah... How did you get this number?... Oh ok... Yeah... Well no... it's ok... umm I don't know... ok... Yeah I get back in August... No... Yeah... sure ... Ok I'll talk to you later.  Bye." She said and turned the  phone off. "It was Landon."

"I know." JC said bitterly.  The moment the tone left his mouth he couldn't believe it.  He had no right to be jealous and yet he was.  He was completely and utterly jealous.  Jealous of a man he had met once.  Jealous because that man had something he wanted ever so desperately.  The affection of a woman he had fallen in love with without knowing.  A woman he had known for years.  A woman he couldn't have.

"What wrong?" Summer asked a bit concerned at him tone.

"Nothing.  I'm just kind of tired." JC lied.  He knew it was only 9 o'clock but it was the best explanation yet.

"Do you want to go to bed?" Summer asked with a hint of concern playing in her voice.

"Yeah, I think I am." He said and turned around and headed toward the door.  "Goodnight" He said.

"Goodnight." She said and watched him walk out the door.  Once he was out the door and she heard him walk up the stairs she sighed loudly.  Jeez, I can't believe I did that! Summer thought.  It's not like I've never kissed him before and it wasn't a kiss, it was on the cheek.  I'm probably being a nut.  He probably doesn't even care.  Summer thought and ran her fingers through her long red hair.

She lazily put the dessert back in the refridgerator, she didn't need anymore sweets to fatten her up anyway she figured.  She headed toward the stairs and walked into her bed room.  She could hear the water running from JC's room and couldn't help but think of him.  She sighed, walked into her room and closed the door.

"Hello?" The sweet smooth voice answered the phone and he suddenly was unsure of what to say.

"Hey Erin, it's uh it's JC." He said a little uneasily.

"JC? Um Hey! How are you?" Erin asked.

"I'm good. I was thinking about you." He said a try his best to cover the uneasyness in his voice.

"Really? Yeah, I was thinking about you too." Erin started.  "I know we've been kind of off and on, but I think we can be really good together."

"I agree.  Erin..." He started and hesitated to say the rest.  "I... I want you back." He said and shut his eyes tightly.  I have to forget Summer he reminded himself.

"I want you back too, JC" Erin replied with a big smile on her face.  "When can I see you?"

"Would you like to go to dinner tomorrow night?" JC asked.

"I would love to."

"Ok great! I'll pick you up at 7:00 is that ok?" He asked while he massaged his temple with one hand.

"Yeah 7 is great! I'll be ready. I would love to chat but I really have to go. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Ok bye." JC said.

"Bye." Erin said and hung up the phone.  He clicked the 'off' button on the telephone and threw it on his bed.  It was 9:00 and he had been thinging for some time.  Asking Erin out was a good thing to do.  Erin was gorgeous.  She was smart, funny and just about everything else you could want.  She had beautiful long black hair and emerald green eyes that stood out like jade.

"I'm doing the right thing.  Summer isn't right for me.  She has Landon and I don't want to get into that." He told himself.  "I'm talking to myself again! Jeez what's wrong with me?"   He plopped down on his bed and closed his eyes.  As he lay there he heard a soft knock at the door.

"Come in." He said and heard the door click open but he didn't bother to open his eyes.

"JC are you ok?" Summer asked.

"I'm fine." He said and looked up at her.  Her hair was pulled up in a messy bun and she wore pajamas.

"You were acting a bit strange today."

"I have a lot on my mind."

"Do you want to talk about it?" She asked.

"Not particularly." He said without looking at her.

"Oh ok. I guess I'll leave you then.  Goodnight" She said very hurt and started walking toward the door.

"G'night"  He said again not turning to look at her.  Summer turned once more to look at him her eyes were filled with hurt.  He looked up and her and saw the hurt in her eyes just before she closed the door.

"Oh God, What did I do?" JC sighed and quickly got up.  He headed to Summer's room.  He quickly knocked on the door.

"What do you want, JC?" Summer asked not opening the door.  He thought he heard a sniffle and he felt completely guilty.

"Summer, I'm sorry." JC said through the closed door.  "I'm coming in." He warned before he opened the door. He walked in to see Summer sitting on the floor next to the bed. He quietly went and sat down next to her.

"You don't have anything to be sorry for." Summer said bitterly.

"Yes I do.  I was mean and rude and you don't deserve that." JC said and looked over at her.

"You don't have to tell me anything.  I'm not making you or anything."

"I know.  It's just I called my ex-girlfriend, Erin, and I kind of want her back." JC explained.  Summer didn't say anything.  Ex-girlfriend she thought.  She could have broken down and cried right then and there but held back.  The thought of JC with someone else tore her heart out.

"Oh,  well did she not want you or something?" Summer asked hoping that was the case.

"No I'm going out with her tomorrow night."

"Oh, have fun" Summer said with a smile that hid any feelings of dissapointment.

"I think I will." He smiled.

"I'm really tired." Summer said.  "I want to go to sleep."

"Ok I'll leave you then." He said and started to get up.  Summer got up too.

"Goodnight." JC said and headed toward the door.

"Wait." Summer said and walked toward him.

"What?" He asked.  She suddenly leant forward and hugged him.  As soon as the first shock was over he put his arms around her and held her closely just taking in the feeling of being near her. She pulled away from him and looked at him.

"Goodnight." She said and took a step back.

"Goodnight." He said and walked out the door.  Summer turned around.  She had wanted to be that close to him ever since she got there and finaly it came true.

"He's going to have a girlfriend by tomorrow." She reminded herself.  "Forget about him." she said layed down.  After tossing and turning she finally fell asleep.
