| Summer Secrets Chapter 4 |
| Summer had slept in that morning. For some people waking up at 9:00 wasn't exactly sleeping in but to her it was late. She pulled her long red hair into a pony tail and popped in her contacts, she would be practically blind without them and she absolutely hated her glasses. As she walked down the stairs she imagined that JC was asleep still. He liked to sleep in and he had woken up early the day before. Summer made her way into the kitchen. She looked in the refrigeration to find something for breakfast. She wasn't a big breakfast person and never really had been. After searching in the refrigerator for a while she found some strawberries in a bowl and went looking for a blender. Once all her supplies were there she began making her "breakfast smoothies." Just as she turned on the blender JC walked into the kitchen. Summer did not notice his entrance or the fact that he stood leaning against the doorframe watching her work. Her bright red hair was pulled into a messy ponytail, her pajamas pants clung loosely to her hips, there was about an inch gap between her pants and tank top, where her tan stomach showed. He couldn't help but look at her. Although he knew it was completely wrong to be looking at his best friend this way it was instinct. Summer soon turned around and his train of thought was broken. "Hey!" She started. "How long have you been standing there?" "A couple of minutes. What are you doing?" He said quickly changing the subject. (He wouldn't want to get caught, that would suck!) "Making smoothies" She explained simply. "For breakfast?" "Yeah, don't you have fruit and milk for breakfast?" She asked. "Yeah I guess you're right." He said and pushed a piece of hair, that had fallen into his face, away. "Of course I am," She said with a smile. She poured the contents of the blender into two cups and placed one in front of JC. "Thanks," he said and took a sip. He then remembered their conversation in the line of Splash Mountain. "So what are we doing today?" He asked with a grin. Summer simply looked at him for a while. She couldn't believe he was actually going to do it. "Hmm...," she thought. JC watched her carefully as she thought. She softly bit her bottom lip and he couldn't help but lick his own lips. He looked down into the cup to get his mind off her and her shiny lips. "Let's go to the beach." She said looking at his deep blue eyes. "Ok, Now or later?" He asked. Summer looked at the clock it was 9:30 AM. "How about in an hour" Summer suggested. "Alright" he said and leaned back on the bar stool. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "You know you got really tan." JC said as they drove to the beach it was 11:00 and although they said they would go earlier they got caught up in an episode of 'Alvin and the Chipmunks'. "Yeah living in California gave a lot of time to go the beach." "You're probably the only person I've ever seen with red hair that isn't glow in the dark and covered with freckles." He laughed. "Yeah I guess you're right. I never really thought of that before." She said the looked out the window. They soon arrived at an area filled with beach front shops and restaurants. JC parked the car and they both stepped out. He opened the trunk and pulled out the beach towels, sun screen and all other beach necessities. The two headed to a spot near the water with not too many people around. Of course, JC wore a hat and sunglass. "Do you ever not wear a hat and sunglasses?" She asked once they were seated. "Yeah, I don't wear them at home." JC said with a wide grin. "You know what I mean." "I don't always wear them. Just in very public places where it wouldn't be weird to find people wearing a hat and sunglasses." He explained. "Oh" Summer simply replied and looked over the ocean. She then looked over at JC who looked like he was ready to go to sleep. She couldn't help but look at his muscular chest and abs. She then remembered he was wearing sunglasses. She had no way of knowing whether she was looking or not. She quickly turned away and looked again out into the ocean. As they lay out at the beach JC couldn't help but think of Summer. What the hell is wrong with me? He thought. She's my best friend I'm not supposed to be thinking of her like this. JC quickly glanced over at her. But damn where the hell was I when she grew up? Once again JC glanced over at Summer to his surprise she was standing up. "What?" He asked pulling off his sunglasses to look at her. "Come with me." She ordered in her gentle voice. He tried his hardest to hold back laughter at her command. She was far too gentle and sweet to sound intimidating, but in spite of it all he stood up. "Where am I going?" He asked as he followed her. "In the water." She said without turning to look at him. As soon as the words has sunken in he froze. The sand beneath his toes suddenly turned to ice and memories of his childhood came flooding back. His mother and his father sitting on a beach towel talking to their friends who where sitting on a large beach towel also. He could see himself as a little boy 6 years old running and building sand castles with his friend Andrew. He remembered Andrew suggesting they should go in the water. From there, asking his mother and father if he could go was nothing but a blur. A blur that lead that inevitable horror that haunted his dreams every so often. The horrible slide show of his young friend getting pulled under that ran through his head whenever something triggered the thought of him. He was broken of his thought when he heard her gentle voice. "JC, I know you don't like going in but please. Andrew was 6 years old your like 4 times older than him. Nothing is going to happen." "Summer..." He started before he was cut off. "JC I understand you were best friend but you have to get over it. It's just the beach. And that happened in California there are hardly even waves in Florida unless there is a hurricane." Summer reminded him. He looked at her closely. His body was tense and he could feel his hand begin to tremble. I told her I would do anything she wants. JC reminded himself. He had to do it. Not only for Summer but for himself. "Ok" He said quietly. A large smile spread on Summer's lips. That wonderful smile of hers. He looked at her and was caught up in her. As she turned around and grabbed his hand he looked at her hair and the way it flowed in the wind. Summer slightly tugged on his arm and he remembered what he had just offered to do. He had just offered to over come his biggest fear. To face something bestowed upon him. The most horrible feeling in the world. The feeling of uneasiness and fear and unbelievable pain. The pain of old memories that perhaps would never be forgotten. As he took steps closer he could feel the moist sand beneath his feet. Summer looked over at him and saw the uneasiness in his face. "JC you don't have to come if you don't want to." She said. "No, I'm going in" He said. He had to keep true to his promise. Before he knew it he was up to his ankles in water. He gripped Summer's hand a bit tighter then took a few more steps. He lightly closed his eyes and continued on. He opened his eyes when he felt the warm water ocean water beating on his stomach. He looked around unaware of the terrified look on his face. Summer couldn't help but look at him with sadness. As the water gently crashed on to him he could see Andrew. He splashed in the water and suddenly a big wave took him under. "No" JC whispered softly. "JC maybe we should go." "No, I'm fine." He said and took a step into deeper water. He looked around and could not believe where he was. A fear that had haunted him for years was now being over come. He looked over at Summer and gave her a soft smile before heading further into the water. |
