| Summer Secrets Chapter 3 |
| Summer quickly pulled her hair into a messy pony tail. She looked at herself in the mirror for a second. It honestly didn't matter what she looked like --she was only going jogging-- yet she still felt that urge. Ever since she had lost weight she was more self conscious. She quickly pushed the thoughts of herself away. She left JC a note before she set out. It was only 6:00 AM he was still asleep on the couch. That couch. As she lightly began to jog she thought of the events of that morning. It was nothing earth shattering, yet to her it was something big. Summer had awoken that morning to something quite unexpected. As her eyes fluttered open she was met with JC's chest beneath her head. She quickly and quietly pulled herself out of the position and went to get ready for a jog. She didn't want JC to wake up and find himself in that position either. A jog was what she needed to clear her mind. She had taken up jogging her senior year of high school. She found it to be a good way to keep in shape and relieve stress. Now that was what she needed. To relax, but she didn't understand why. For strange reason as she lay in his arms an unusual feeling came over her. One she had never felt before. It was as if everything was right. After jogging for a few more minutes her mind drifted to other dilemmas in her life. Soon, though, once again her mind drifted back to JC. What could she say about JC? He was her best friend since childhood. He always knew how to make her laugh and he always seemed to know that something was bothering her, and to top it all off he always had a solution to the problem. Why can't I get him out of my head? She asked herself frustrated. Now, JC had always been attractive. Summer couldn't deny that, but recently she had begun to notice it more. In the past day she noticed more about his physical appearance than she had in an entire life time of knowing him. She noticed the way the corner of his eyes wrinkled when he smiled. She noticed his muscular chest. But most of all she noticed his hands. They were soft, but they weren't the hands of someone who had never worked in their life. There was something about his hands that caused them to constantly be on Summer's mind. Summer looked down at her watch. It was almost 7:00 AM. She had been jogging for almost an hour. She decided to start heading back. By the time she got back to JC's house it was 7:15 AM. She opened the door, which she had left unlocked and walked in. Summer looked over to the couch and saw that JC's body was no longer there. "Hey." JC said, and Summer --startled at the sound-- jumped. "Sorry I didn't mean to scare you." "It's ok. Did you get my note?" Summer asked. "You mean the post-it that was stuck on my forehead? How could I miss it?" JC said sarcastically with a small laugh. Summer just laughed a little. "Yeah, sorry about that. That just happened to be a convenient spot." Summer laughed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Summer finished taking a shower it was almost 8 o'clock by the time she had finished her daily routine of taking a shower, brushing her teeth, blow drying her hair and getting dressed. She soon heard a rumble in her stomach and decided she was hungry and was time to get something to eat. As she made her way down stairs she heard something coming from JC's kitchen. Summer walked into the kitchen to find JC putting something in a frying pan. "What are you doing?" Summer asked. JC turned around at the moment he laid eyes on her he was stunned. Never in his life had he seen her look this beautiful. He had always thought Summer was pretty, but now as he saw her for some reason her beauty struck him. He couldn't help but stare at her. "JC?" She said and broke him from his trance. "Oh huh, yeah. I was making pancakes." He said with a smile. Then he remembered something. Summer hated pancakes. "Now, I know you hate pancakes, but before you say anything I want you to try these." "And what makes these so different from other pancakes that would cause my taste buds to enjoy them?" Summer asked with a small laugh as she crossed her arms in front of her chest. "Well I added something to them." "Are you trying to drug me?" "No, I added cinnamon and chocolate chips." He said laughing at her joke. JC quietly placed one pancake on a plate and put it on the counter next to her. He then grabbed a fork and syrup and did the same. Summer picked up the syrup and poured some on. She then picked up the fork and picked at it until there was a small bite size piece on the fork. She looked at him carefully before she put it in her mouth. As she chewed it slowly she was surprised to find it wasn't half bad. Not the best thing she had tried but definitely eatable. "What do you think?" "Not too bad." She said with a smile and took another bite. JC studied her as she chewed. Her nose slightly wiggled and her closed lips moved in a circular motion. "Stop staring at me." She said calmly once she finished chewing. JC quickly looked away trying to hide his embarrassment. She picked up the plate and sat down at the table. "What are we doing today?" She asked and took another small bite. "When was the last time you went to Disneyland?" JC asked. "Last month in California." She said with a small laugh. "Well I mean the one here. In Orlando." "Umm probably about 10 years ago or something like that, why?" "You wanna go?" He asked with a wide grin. "Today?" Summer asked unsure. "Yeah." "Sure" she said with a smile. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JC and Summer waited patiently in the long line for Splash Mountain. It was a hot summer day and getting wet was just what they needed. "So, your Mom told me you're going to Harvard next year." JC said happily. "Yeah." Summer said with a smile. He immediately recognized that smile. It was the smile she plastered on her face when she was trying to make others happy while neglecting herself. "What's wrong?" "What do you mean? Nothing's wrong." She said, once again that smile was dancing on her lips. "I know that smile. Now, don't you want to go to Harvard?" "Of course I want to go to Harvard! Who doesn't?" Summer exclaimed. "Well it seems to me like you don't. So why don't you tell me what's going on?" "It's just... I don't want to be a lawyer. That's my dad's dream. Not mine. He wants me to be a successful lawyer and take over his firm when he retires. I mean, I guess it would be perfect. I would be set for life." "But...?" "But that's not what I want. I mean I don't really want to be a lawyer, you know? I don't want to live in my dad's shadow, but you just don't turn down Harvard. I worked too hard in school to go and give that up to be something that requires little if not no school time." Summer said releasing all her tension. She could always talk to JC and he always had a way of knowing what to do to fix her problems or at least he would try to help. "Well, don't you think you should be doing something you want to do?" JC reasoned. "I guess, but that doesn't matter." "Why not?" "Because, I'm going to Harvard it's all paid and my parents bought me an apartment 2 blocks from campus and my dad's getting his Harvard gear and he's so happy that his little girl is following in his footsteps and going to Harvard." "When was the last time you did something you wanted to do? Something completely spontaneous?" JC asked. "What do you mean?" "I mean you never do anything you want to do. You always are trying to please others even if it means you aren't happy. Everything you do is planned and I've never seen you do anything without planning it in advance." "That's not true" Summer defended herself. "Sure it is. When was the last time you did something you wanted to do?" "Today. We're at Disneyland aren't we?" Summer said smartly. "I asked you to go, and if you ask me going to visit Mickey isn't exactly spontaneous and something that makes you truly happy." "Well what would you like me to do?" "The question is more what would you like to do?" Summer simply looked at him and didn't say anything. "I have an idea. Ok, this time you're here with me, we won't do anything unless you say so. We will sit at home and do nothing unless you say to do something. So for 3 weeks we are going to do whatever you want and be as wild and crazy as you feel like." "Let me get this straight. For 3 weeks we're doing whatever I want?" "Yeah" "And if I want to go sky diving you'll go?" "Yeah sure." JC answered knowing that she would never in her right mind try it. Especially not with her fear of planes and heights. "Ok" Summer said not fully knowing what else to say. No one ever really cared what she thought or what she wanted to do and for once someone was. Summer simply looked over at him and smiled. By the time she realized they were already getting on the ride. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
