| Summer Secrets Chapter 11 |
| "Are you sure you know what you're doing?" Summer asked as she hugged a towel closer around her shoulders. She watched JC in the mirror as his hands applied black hair dye to her long red hair. "Yeah I've seen how Jilly, our hair lady, does it all the time." JC explained. "Just trust me" "Ok" Summer said. "Just relax. It's not like I can mess it up. It's going to be one solid color so it's not a big deal." "Ok" Summer watched him carefully as he worked. Occasionally his fingers would massage her scalp to try to calm her down. "Ok I'm done. Now leave it in for 40 minutes." JC said and Summer nodded. The telephone rang and JC picked up the cordless phone next to him. "Hello? Hey... What's up? ... Nothing... Dyeing Summer's hair.... Black... Because she wanted to... No... I don't know... Really?.... Ok.... Ummm... Let me ask. Hold on." He covered up the phone. "It's Becki. She wants to know if you wanted to go to dinner with her and the rest of the girl." "Sure. Are you going to go?" "No I'm not. It's just you." "Yeah I'll go." "Ok." He said and turned back to the phone. "Ok yeah... Ok... Yeah... I don't know... Yeah... last night... ok bye." JC said and hung up the phone. "They'll be here in like 2 hours." JC said. "Ok" Summer said. "What are you going to do?" "I'm ugh, I'm going to call Erin and maybe do something." He said not looking at her face. "Oh cool." Summer said with fake excitement. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After Summer had waited 40 minutes she headed up to go take a shower. An hour later she came walking down the stairs fully dressed with make-up and her hair blow dried. JC looked at her as she walked down the stairs. The newly black hair accented her eyes and the sun dress she wore did wonders for her figure. "Does it look ok?" Summer asked a little self conscious. "It looks great." JC said with a smile. "Really?" "Yeah you look." He said and paused. "You look beautiful." Summer swallowed a lump in her throat and looked at him wide-eyed. No one had ever told her she was beautiful. "Thank you." She said shyly. JC nodded and blushed he turned away quickly to hide his embarrassment. Luckily he was saved by the doorbell ringing. Summer walked to the door and looked through the peek hole to find Becki standing at the other side. She quickly opened the door. "Oh my! Summer! You're hair looks wonderful!" She exclaimed and hugged her. "Thanks" Summer said with a small laugh. "Hey Jace." Becki said. "Hey" He said from the coach not bothering to get up. "You ready to go?" Becki asked. "Yeah. Bye JC" "Bye" He said and waved. They headed out the door and to the car. "So black hair! Wow! It looks awesome." Becki commented. "Thanks. Where are we going? If you don't mind my asking." "Oh no it's fine! We're going to Denise's house because she decided to play Betty Crocker and Chris didn't want to eat her cooking so she invited us all over, but she isn't a bad cook or anything, actually she's really good." "Oh ok." Summer smiled. "So what's been going on lately? Actually in the past like 3 days I haven't seen you." "Nothing, we've stayed home basically well yeah JC went out with his girlfriend or whatever." Summer said kind of quietly. Becki looked over from the road to Summer and then back at the road. "You like him don't you?" Becki grinned. "What?" Summer answered as if the question was completely ridiculous. "Oh come on! I can see it. You're totally in love with him, but don't worry because I think he's got it bad for you too." Becki added. "Yeah, right, he's dating that Erin girl." Summer said. "Well maybe he's only going with her to get his mind off you." Becki reasoned. "No, guys like JC don't go for girls like me." Summer said. "What do you mean 'Girls like you'?" "He dates pretty girls and that's not me." "You're pretty!" Becki said. "Not like Erin. Have you seen her?" "Yes." "Well then there you go." "I don't get it." Becki said confused. "It's pretty simple actually. Erin is perfect. I'm not. JC would never be in love with me." Summer said. "So you are in love with him." "Ugh! YES! Do I have to shout it to the world!?!? Isn't that my business!?! JC doesn't like me! End of story! Can we change the subject?!?!" Summer yelled completely frustrated, yet she was surprised. She had never yelled at someone the way she just did. "Ok I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get you upset." "I'm not upset." Summer defended. "Whatever... anyway. I know you're probably going to hate me for asking this because I know you requested a subject change but I'm going to have to insist." "What?" "Well I think you and JC would be good for each other." Becki said a bit cautiously. Summer took a deep breath. "No" she said calmly. "What do you mean 'no'?" "I mean no. We aren't good for each other. At least not like that. We're best friends, there's a difference. Plus I think he really likes that Erin girl." "Him and Erin don't click. There's something there that isn't right. I think it purely physical." Becki explain. "What do you mean?" Summer asked a bit confused. "I mean it's just sex. Plus the girls gorgeous what guy would like her? But I still don't think JC is genuinely attracted to her." Summer was unsure or what to say. JC didn't seem like the type to have a relationship based on sex. He was just too sweet! As the thoughts ran through her mind Becki continued to drive. "I really think you should go for him." "How do I 'Go for him'?" Summer asked. "I don't know. Drop hints, flirt, kiss him. I don't know. It shouldn't be too hard." "Can we talk about something else?" Summer pleaded trying not to sound rude. "Yeah, well we're here so we can just stop talking about it. But I won't guarantee it won't come up later." Becki said a bit concerned as she stopped the car and turned it off. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The door bell rang and JC lazily got up to answer it. Summer had just left not less then 5 minutes ago. He looked through the peek hole to find his usual nosey neighbor at the other side of the door. "Eve. What can I do for you?" JC asked with a pleasant smile once he had opened the door. "I needed to borrow a cup of sugar." Eve smiled. "Yeah right, You never have wanted to borrow sugar, you always want to come over and talk. Why don't you come on it?" JC offered with a small laugh. "Oh well thank you for the invitation." Eve smiled and headed in. "What did you want to know now?" JC asked without the slightest hint of annoyance or anger, he actually sounded amused. "Well, I was in the yard and I couldn't help but see you're friend, Summer leaving with Lance's girlfriend." Eve began. "Yes, and?" "Well, I was actually wondering... Oh hell! I'll just get straight to the point." "Please do." JC interjected. "What's going' on with that girl? She a perfect little girl next door." Eve said frankly. "She's my best friend. I've known her since... forever." "Really? And there is no romantic bond between you two?" "No, we're just friends." "Oh that's too bad. So I heard you went out last night or something like that." "Yes, who did you hear from?" JC asked with an amused grin. "I came to borrow a cup of sugar and you weren't home, but Summer was." Eve grinned. "Yeah, I just got back with Erin. You remember Erin right?" "Yes, how could I forget?" Eve said with a cocked eyebrow. JC just laughed. "I've known you for a long time right?" "Yeah, sure 2 years." "Ok, not that long, but a while. Correct?" JC nodded. "Well I'm a year older than you and feel I should give you some advice." "Go ahead." "I'm not saying you have to follow this advice but I strongly suggest you consider it." JC nodded. "I think you would be better with Summer..." "Excuse me?" "Than with Erin, I like Summer better and I've seen the way you look at her. Now, you know I spy on you and just about every other neighbor that's no secret, but I honestly have never seen you as happy with someone as you are with her." "What are you trying to tell me here?" "I'm trying to tell you to lose Erin and get with Summer." "Summer has someone." JC sighed as he spoke. "What? Who?" "This guy his name is Landon Brewer, He's a stock broker and he-" "Is good looking comes from a good family, and his father is a neuron surgeon. I know. I know him, my husband is good friends with his father, Jake Brewer. Honestly, Landon is too perfect. He would have to marry someone exactly like him." "So you know him?" "Yes, I said that." Eve answered and decided to change the subject. "Now, I've never known you to be shy especially not around women. I swear boy you have confidence radiating off of you. Now my question is why on Earth do you not want to pursue a relationship with Miss Summer? Could it be perhaps you have fallen so madly in love with her that you're scared?" Eve questioned. JC stared at her silently and completely memorized. How she knew this was beyond his reasoning. "I'll take that as a yes." Eve grinned. "Now I'm going to give you a tip about women. They are never, well usually not unless they are strong butch feminists which I'm guessing Summer isn't, they are never the first ones to show interest. We like to wait for the man, just in case, so we don't make a fool of ourselves. Does that make sense?" "So you're saying Summer will not say anything if she is in love with me because she scared or worried?" "She might drop hints but chances are she won't be the first to confess." "Evie, I think you're crazy." "I'm not crazy. I'm absolutely correct. Trust me I'm a woman I know these things." "It doesn't matter, because I know she wants Landon and he makes her happy." JC said. "Landon makes tons of people happy because he makes them money! JC, I really think you should consider this. Landon is different. He was raised in high society and will probably marry some rich little girl he meets in a country club, not a girl like Summer. She seems far too pure, sweet, and innocent for him. I really think you should consider Summer as more than an unattainable gem. She's in your reach and ready, all you have to do it take..." Eve looked at her watch. "I have to go. My hubby will be home soon. It was nice talking to you." Eve said getting up from the couch. "Ok bye." JC said walking her toward the door. "I'm very serious about our conversation JC. It would be a shame to see someone as talented and caring as you not be truly happy." Eve said and headed to her house. JC watched as she walked to her house. He took a deep breath and shut the door. |
