WHO WE'RE HELPING

THE STORY OF SAMSON, BUFFALO, NY

The story and pictures of Samson will make you literally cry.  The abuse and neglect this poor boy suffered at the hands of a woman named Ida Thomas for almost 10 months is shocking.  How could she?  HOW DARE SHE!

Since we want to do something to help Samson immediately, we did not obtain permission to use the pictures of
Samson.   However, we included the link that contains the full story complete with several pictures of Samson.
WARNING:  The pictures are graphic and if you have a weak stomach, we are not sure you want to see them.

No matter how much Samson has endured, he still remains sweet and gentle towards humans after being nearly starved to death.  Samson weighed 80 lbs in June 2004.  His present weight is 40 lbs!  His frail bony body is covered in open pressure sores but his eyes still hold that exquisite longing to be loved.

Please help us help Samson.  Let's work together and make Samson's Easter and his future a happier one.
ALL proceeds from this raffle will go to the Erie County SPCA located in Erie County, New York with specifications that the proceeds go toward Samson's vet bills, bandages, medications, food and whatever else this boy needs to nurse him back to health.

Until then, we will keep Samson in our daily prayers and thoughts for a remarkable recovery and no ill effects from his malnutrition, dehydration and pain in the future.

Thank you for opening your heart and helping!

UPDATE ON SAMSON!!!  UPDATE ON SAMSON!!!  March 24th, 2005

Forwarding this on behalf of
BGA President Gary Woods:

On behalf of Buffalo Greyhound Adoption, I would like to thank everyone who has responded so wonderfully in support of Samson and the SPCA. I am humbled by the outpouring of your generosity, both financial and material. Your concern for his well-being is heartwarming in the face of the cold cruelty he has suffered. Many fund-raising efforts are still in progress so I have no totals to pass along.

Samson is at the SPCA where he continues to improve. I spoke with a vet technician in charge of his care today and she told me he has gained 11 lbs, but has developed a mild case of diarrhea.  He is, as you may expect, tired and resting a lot but is
comfortable and eating well. He is on a special diet and receiving other therapeutic treatments to aid in his recovery.

I understand that charges in the case have been elevated to felony animal abuse. A trial date has been set for April 13th.
Hopefully at that time we will learn what went so terribly wrong.

I will try and keep updates coming, and thank you all again for your support. Samson continues to give hugs and wag his tail, and that is the best thanks we can get.

Gary Woods
President
Buffalo Greyhound Adoption

Another picture of Samson resting on a plush bed.  The sweater he is wearing covers part of the open pressure sores on his frail thin body.
