Dec. 8th Show Review
We'll start off where the show started, with my arriving. I arrived a little before 8 and they let me in even though they said the doors wouldn't open until 8. I wasn't the first one there, there were others there too. I talked with members from CSMM for a bit but some people were too preoccupied with setting up. People were filing in regularly and it started to get a pretty good sized crowd going. Mediocre at Best was there right away and so was Paranoid Society. SECW and Logan's Loss arrived shortly after I did. One surprising thing I saw at the show was the number of poseurs there (the security guards for one). A few others just came because they're friends were going and they decided to go but I heard some good things come from them.
Paranoid Society kicked off the show promptly at 8:30. This was the first time I had heard them play and I was quite surprised. They played a couple of originals and a couple covers including Blink 182 "Dammit." During their set they announced that the show had its 100th crowd member to show up and there were still people coming in. It took a while to get the mosh pit going. I and a few others tried as hard as we could to get it going but it didn't work. By the time Paranoid Society finished it was going well. Then they finished and the moshing stopped for a bit but people did not stray from the pit.
Mediocre at Best was next to appear on stage and they were better than the first time I had seen them when they opened for Mustard Plug. The mosh pit was pretty good by now and the real punks started to show their stuff. Mediocre played some good skankin' songs as well as some hard punk tunes. They were really well mixed and I'm looking forward to seeing them open for The Blue Meanies in a few weeks. They said that they really did not enjoy the moshing near the stage so they told us to move the pit back a few but, of course, there were some reluctant people who kept the pit close to the stage. Then the security guards stepped in and decided to stand next to the stage and act tough, pushing people back whenever they got too close (b.s.).
This is where confusion set in for me when SECW started to set up the show instead of CSMM as originally planned. SECW decided that they did not want to risk getting canceled due to curfew so they decided to go third. While SECW was setting up David of CSMM decided to show off his break-dancing "skillz" to the DJ Levlhead tunes. A circle formed quickly and everyone joined in the mix. Vinnie and Max did a very good karate type routine in which I got a severe charlie-horse on my thigh from Vinnie toppling over.
Next up was the much anticipated band Straight-Edge Crack Whores (SECW). They were awesome, simple as that. They played a new song that they haven't practiced and they warned us that it hadn't been practiced much but it was played very well and was one of their best songs. I will look forward to downloading it on mp3.com when and if they put it on there. The mosh pit was getting rough by this time and the poseur security guards were pretty much the source. They don't know how to mosh. A lot of the other people were also getting into the pit which was nice to see everyone having fun.
Logan's Loss also played before CSMM due to the risk of the curfew thing. Logan's Loss did not play on the stage because of too little room or something so they were on the floor with the rest of us. The poseur security guards were there once again acting tough and blocking everyone from getting to the band but nobody is that stupid so once again the guards were not necessary. I was quite tired from moshing through the first 3 bands so I sat back and listened. I thought the band had some good songs. They were more of a Green Day type band, which I didn't really enjoy. But they were pretty good.
Time for CSMM. They brought out all of their stuff along with the new horn stands which were laced with checkerboard cloth. They introduced the band quickly with a tribute to GermanBoy for he was leaving for Germany the next day. They played the hit "Had it Up to Here" and some Mustard Plug covers which got the crowd really into it. They finished the show wonderfully and they were great. I can't wait till the next show.
