| Pi: The Movie by Sublime |
| I am pretty sure Pi came out in '99 and I kept hearing about how bad it was so I knew I had to see it. Pi was one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen. It wasn't bad at all just very weird (it is the kind of movie you should watch if you're high). The main character Max is the narrator and a pill-popping math genius. Another thing I should mention about Max is that he is very paranoid, he doesn't talk much to other people and he thinks everybody is out to get him (and it turns out a lot of people are). Max lives in a dirty apartment in New York City where he spends most of his time. There is a little girl that lives in his apartment complex and everyday she comes up to him with a calculator and asks him a difficult math problem, and of course he does it in his head and answers correctly. Max has a homemade computer in his apartment that he uses to track the stock market. He is trying to use his knowledge of pi to crack the code of the stock market and make a shitload of money. One day while sitting in a bar a Jewish man walks up to him and asks him his name, and it turns out Max is Jewish. So the two start talking about the Torah and the man says he is part of an organization that is trying to find out the 216 digit true name of God. With Max's math skills this guy thinks they can use him to figure out God's name. The Jewish man isn't the only one that knows about Max's skills. Another organization tracks Max down and offers him a super computer chip that will help him with the stock market code. Eventually Max starts to go insane because of his obsessions with pi. One of the oddest parts of the movie was when Max was in the subway and he sees a brain (yes, a brain) sitting at the foot of some stairs. So as any normal person would do, he goes up to it and pokes it with a pen. They do a close up of the brain and it has ants crawling on it and it looks disturbingly real. After this experience he realizes what he has to do. Max goes back to his nasty apartment, stands at the mirror and calculates where the parts of his brain are that control his mathematical skills. He then proceeds to drill a hole into his head (all they show is a lot of blood splatter on the mirror). And guess what! He survives! Pi was a great movie that requires a lot of thinking while you watch it (anyone that doesn't know what pi is shouldn't see it). It is in black and white and I think it makes the movie seem even weirder, Pi is definitely worth seeing! |
