| Nonpoint Gets to the Point by Ian |
| Nonpoint, Darwin's Waiting Room, and Reveille. Those are the 3 bands that performed Thursday, august 30 at the Orbit Room. And, to say the least, they did send the Orbit Room into orbit. The first band that played was Darwin's Waiting Room. They are from Florida, and the band consists of 5 members; 2 singers, a bassist, a drummer, a guitarist, who looked almost identical to Wes Borland from Limp Bizkit. They egged the crowd on with about 50 minutes of in-your-face rap/metal. I'm not a very big fan of the rap/metal genre, but I have to say that this band inspired me. Yep, that's right. They've inspired me to go buy their album the next time I get money. They played several songs from their debut cd, including, "Feel stupid", and "Dick in your mouth". The mosh pit was getting warmed up when they finally finished playing, and announced that they would be in the lobby signing autographs. I took the opportunity to meet one of the singer's and get his autograph. Next came Reveille (pronounced "rev-A-lee"). Reveille is like Darwin's's except for the fact that they are a lot heavier. They have a new cd called "Bleed the sky" coming out December 18, and they played several songs from that, including the new single "What you got?". They also jammed a lot of their old songs from their debut, self-titled cd. As beer and bodies flew through the air, I began to realize something as I was moshing. A lot of people look at the mosh pit and think about how rough it is. Well, I've figured out that you have to become one with the pit and let out the rage and anger that you have stored up inside of you, instead of thinking how you're going to get pummeled. Then Reveille too announced that they would be signing autograph's in the lobby. Last, but not least, the time had come for Nonpoint to come on stage. They opened up with the song "Victim", which is on their debut cd "Statement". The pit for Nonpoint was worse than I had ever thought that a pit in the Orbit Room could be. People were running at full speed and knocking into each other HEAD FIRST. That had to hurt (I should know, I was one of them). Nonpoint plays with a surprising amount of energy, and I enjoyed their performance very, very much. They played about 10 songs from Statement. They blazed through "Endure", "Hive", and "Mindtrip" like there was no tomorrow, but the highest point was when they played "What a day". That's one of my all-time favorite songs, and to hear it live made it all the better. Just when everyone thought it was over, the band called out the lead singer from Darwin's Waiting Room, and played "Tribute", which was about as gentle as Hitler was with the Jews. Finally, the band announced that they would be by their tour bus "in 20 minutes". I hurried ahead. After about an hour of waiting, I had gotten all of Nonpoint's autographs, all three lead singer's to sign my ticket stub, and the guitarists from Darwin's's Waiting Room and Reveille, and the lead singer of Reveille's autographs, as well as being able to slap hands with them and tell them they did an awesome job. The pit for these groups were impressive, considering the small size of the Orbit Room, but hey, if you're good enough to at least make it to the Orbit Room, you're pretty damn good. |
