| Slipknot: Iowa by Ian |
| When I finally heard the release date of the new Slipknot cd was August 28, I promised myself that I'd be one of the first people to get it. Then I found out that school started the same day. I had to make a choice; school or Slipknot? First, I went to school, but since they kicked me out of my 2nd hour, I left and bought it. And I have to say, I'm glad I did. To start, some people may think that because there is a goat's head on the cover that the cd is Satanic. It's not. Even though the song heretic mentions 666 (If you're 555, I'm 666), not once is Satan mentioned. The cd starts with a track called (515), and then plows into "People equal shit". This album focuses on killing people, hating one another, and psychological obsessions with other people. "I fill your mouth with dirt. You can never leave." Song titles include "My Plague", "Disasterpiece", and "New Abortion". The songs on this cd make their last look like Blink 182. The music was so intense, I was sure a fuse was gonna blow while I listened to it. Many songs are so insanely fast* and out-of-control that I wasn't able to make out the guitar riffs. Other songs were as slow as snot dripping off a curb. On this recording, lead singer Corey Taylor** disses pop artists ("You're all fucked and overrated. I think I'm gonna be sick and it's your fault") and sticks up for alternative people ("What the fuck are you looking at? I'll tell you, anyone you ever fucking laughed at."). Many tracks focus on inner pain and self-loathing, which I can relate to, so they have a special place in my heart. Lyrics like "I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound." reveal that Corey is angry and pissed off. All in all, there are 14 tracks, 13 songs. Of the 13 songs, I like 12 of them. If you are a fan of Slipknot, or if you like bands that focus on the evilness of people and the world, this cd's for you. *Editor's note: When they were recording the cd, drummer Joey Jordison had to get up at 5 am to run. He needed to get his heart rate up so he could drum fast enough. ** Is it just me, or does his name sound like he belongs in a boy band? |
