It all started on a hot, sunny day in July 1996. A month before my 13th birthday, I was sitting watching MTV and this amazing video came on...ok so I'll be honest, the hot lead singer caught my attention. He was wearing a suit and a top hat, and the band was singing in the sky. There were funny aliens and a newly wed couple trying to escape them..so I'm not going to describe the whole video but hopefully you've figured out by now that the video I saw was "Tonight Tonight". I looked at the corner of the screen to see who this beautiful boy was (well, honestly I thought he was only 18 or so....I was only about..11 years off..oops..) and I saw "The Smashing Pumpkins" and thought to myself, "Gosh that name sounds so firmiliar...". Then the light bulb went on and I realized that my sister had one of their cds..yes, I though to myself..I remember her coming home with it and thinking 'The Smashing Pumpkins'? What a dumb name for a band!' So that led on to the 2nd, sometimes people argue 1st, biggest obsession of my life and despite the fact that they have broken up, I don't see it coming to an end any time in the near future, nor do I want it to. Obviously it's not Billy's gorgeous blue eyes or crooked teeth that have kept my interest for all these years (although they haven't hurt! ;) but rather the mind-blowing music and powerful lyrics. They have a song for every emotion one could feel, and basically they have been the biggest support through my adolescence. Don't believe me? Ask any other pumpkinhead and I guarentee they will all tell you the same thing. ("and a big 'Fuck You' to those who will never understand"- Billy Corgan) Read about my Pumpkins experiences.
