Thank you for visiting the Cowan Drumline web site. Cowan’s Drumline was directed by head percussion instructor Christopher Hall for four years. Chris has moved on and our head pecussion instructor position is currently up in the air. We wish Chris the best, and we miss him dearly. Assistant instructor for the up coming summer will be Jen Evans, current secretary and aged out member of the Cowan Drumline. Our approach as a percussion ensemble is different than just being competitive. George Hopkins, director of The Cadets of Bergen County, once wrote an article entitled “It’s Not About Winning, It’s About Personal Growth.” Our percussion ensemble follows many of the views that this article represents. We also believe that in order to be a competitive drumline and to consider ourselves “winners” in the state of Indiana, we not only have to put up a fight with our competitors, but we must also try to better ourselves. In order to accomplish the goals that we set for ourselves, each individual member must grow and meet their own personal standard of music education by taking the time to learn the things each member feels they should know from other students or instructors outside of normal rehearsals. Extra education is always available outside of normal rehearsals if students are willing to learn. We believe that personal discipline, education, and just raw hard work is what it takes for us to consider ourselves one of the best percussion ensembles in the state of Indiana.

Current plans for drumline auditions and repetoire are in process for the 2002 Indiana State Track Association competitions. We plan on competing to the best of our abilities and proving that Cowan Drumline deserves to be at the top.
