<BGSOUND SRC="lawrence_of_arabia.mid">
NAME: Kedar (means "Strong")

AGE: 6

HEIGHT: 15.3hh

BREED: Sparran Warstallion, Rishada Type

COLOUR: Pitch black, with the irridiscent, metallic sheen that characterises the breed, although this sheen is dark as opposed to gold. Black is considered a very unlucky colour.

LOOKS: Colour is as above; three white socks; is very "typey" ie he displays the characteristic conformation of the Sparran wahorse - strong, clean legs; handsome profile that is mostly straight with a very slight Roman arch to the muzzle; slight ewe-neck; slender; very little hair in mane or tail; strong quarters; high-set tail; alert expression; expressive eyes; athletic build. Also has three white socks, something that is considered lucky.

PERSONALITY:
Kedar is the more sensible of the two stallions. He is highly intelligent, and his slightly calmer outlook on life makes him Saqr's mount of choice when she requires a strong, reliable, swift mount. However don't be fooled into thinking that Kedar is calm. He's still a stallion, with an independant streak and a capricious temperment. He's a highly intelligent individual, and true to his breed, is very much a one-person horse. He is completely devoted to Saqr but is taciturn towards strangers. Is one of the fastest horses in the Riphai ranks.

BRIEF HISTORY:
Kedar was born under unusual circumstances, as his birth coincided exactly with the birth of
Zafir; the date of his birth was also Saqr's date of birth, right down to the minute. As a black colt, Kedar should have been removed at once to a special, remote compound, but the circumstances of his birth ensured him a life with Saqr (read more about this on Saqr's page).

As soon as he was weaned Kedar and Zafir were sent to train as the mounts of a Riphai. Kedar's duties as a warhorse are somewhat different from those of a Northern warhorse. Tarisic warhorses have to be fast, light and agile as well as be able to survive on minimal water and vegetation. The Riphai are light cavalry, therefore they use bows at long range and scimitars at close range. A Riphai's mount must then be swift and agile to get them close to the fray and encircle the enemy; they should only exhibit highly aggressive "warhorse" behaviour (ie rearing, lashing out, biting) when their rider is under threat at close quarters or someone is trying to cut their girth.

Despite being Zafir's match in every hair, Kedar is very much the strong, sensible one. He would die for Saqr,  but strangers should be warned, he is  stallion, and like all stallions can be and often is aggressive and capricious. Approach with care.
