Pictures of my house
before Hurricane Ivan
These pics were taken the weekend before Ivan hit, 11, September 04
The first pic doesn't show much except that I have a big cedar tree, rest are views of the front of the house.
Side views and rear view of the house.  Also a view of the huge side yard.  Yard total is just over a half an acre.
Another view of the back.  Some views of the barn on my property.  Barn is almost as big as the house.
One more view of the barn and a few pics of the workshop/carport.  Adding to an old look, an old swing sits under fig trees.
Some shots of an old chicken coop.....no, there are no chickens in there.
Preparations for Ivan the day before the storm hits.
Boarding up all windows on the house and the barn.  Cheaper to buy boards than new windows.
Cars in the barn, covered and I'm hoping nothing happens to them.
Here it is the day before Hurricane Ivan is projected to hit.  Every thing is boarded and cleaned off the yard.  Ivan just south of Pensacola, FL/Mobile, AL and is a catagory 4 storm with 145 mph winds sustained.  Storm surge is estimated to be around 15 ft.
Wednesday, 15, September 04
At my parents house, start feeling affects of Ivan around noon.  Storm tracker predicts to hit Mobile, Alabama.  Eye is to make landfall over night.  WInds were 140 mph.  Just after 6pm power was lost, winds and rain have seriously increased, local winds were sustained over 40+, Ivan's winds are now 135 mph.  8pm winds are sustained at over minimal hurricane strength, 75 mph.  Around 11pm, Ivan makes a turn toward Pensacola, the city I live.  Ivan makes landfall near Gulf Shores, Alabama around 2am thursday morning, 16, September 04, it proceeds through the northwestern-most part of Pensacola, my house is located in northwest Pensacola.  Local winds are 125 mph or more and gusting higher.  Roughly 100 tornados were said to have come from Ivan.  Storm surges around 25 ft, a report of up to 51 feet hit along the coastline near the Florida/Alabama borderline.  Baldwin Co. Alabama (including Gulf Shores) and Escambia Co. Florida (including Pensacola) were the hardest hit by this storm causing extreme amounts of damage on the coastline and heavy amounts of damage inland.  A phenominal amount of trees and power lines were snapped and/or laid, bridges were heavily damaged or distroyed including the Interstate 10 bridge that was partically knocked down.  Amazingly only a small handful of people were killed in the wrath of Ivan, may those people rest in piece.  This is definitely something you don't want to go through often.
