UNIVERSE
THE SOLAR SYSTEM
The Rabbit solar
system comprises of 11 planets, 5 are gas giants and 6 are terrestrial. The
planets in order of closest to furthest are Kelsoa,
Odin, Zeus, Rabbitearth, Minerva, Hades, Geoitra, Combesta, Columbis, Aquarius and Thanatos.
The first five
planets have the most data that the rabbits so far have learned of:
Kelsoa is a barren planet that is constantly cooked by the sun and
temperatures are well in advance of 1500 ºC.
Kelsoa’s terrain is mostly rock, but lava
streams are plentiful on the surface.
The close orbit to the sun makes breaking out or Kelsoa’s
orbit extremely difficult. It has no moon, although some scientists suggest Kelsoa was actually a moon from Odin, but the sun’s
gravitational forces eventually pulled Kelsoa away.
No rabbit has dared venture near this uninhabitable planet.
Odin is a barren planet that has no atmosphere and receives large
amounts of cosmic radiation due to its close orbit around the sun. While not as hot as Kelsoa,
Odin’s surface temperature reaches 800ºC during the day and drops to
-239ºC at night. Space probes have shown that Odin has vast
traces of ore on the surface, and the ore justifies engineers to look into the
task of setting up a mining colony on Odin.
Odin, like Kelsoa, has no moon.
Zeus was just recently colonized by the
rabbits in 2120. Temperatures are milder compared to the inner two planets, but
an atmosphere of mostly carbon dioxide still makes Zeus’s surface very hot
(About 300ºC). Though it was settled for
mining ore, the process of creating oxygen for the colonies also makes pure
carbon and oxygen one of the main commodities shipped off of Zeus. Terri-forming the planet as a result of the
carbon dioxide separation process has led to breaks in the dense cloud cover,
causing the planet’s surface to cool somewhat. Scientists estimate that the
oxygen in Zeus’s atmosphere would reach Rabbitearth levels in 2500. Like Kelsoa and Odin, it has no moon.
Rabbitearth is the home planet of the rabbits. It is a habitable planet
with climates ranging from desert areas to arctic conditions. Consisting of 6
continents, the rabbits have settled into 20 countries after some moderate
fighting. Almost all fighting stopped after all the countries agreed to join
the Unified Rabbit Countries, or URC.
Rabbitearth has a binary moon system, Morana the
larger moon that orbits Rabbitearth and Tanaria which
orbits Morana.
Morana is home to the RCG’s
main military base, The Rabbit Legion Base Alpha. Morana is also the
main supply storage base for the other Colonial planets, so the planet has
large warehouses, some the size of small cities, to store goods.
Tanaria is a small body spherical in
shape, approximately 2500 Kilometers in diameter, which orbits Morana. It has a bit
of a “Death Star” appearance, due to the fact there is a very large crater in
the northern hemisphere. This crater is
rich with minerals, so there are three major mining operations in the crater
alone.
Minerva is a planet with very large deposits of Iron. The atmosphere
is made up of nitrogen, carbon dioxide and oxygen and although the atmosphere
is breathable, the very low levels of oxygen are a health hazard to the
colonists, who have to wear oxygen masks to work outside. Minerva was the first planet to be colonized
after Rabbitearth’s moons.
Minerva has only one moon: an asteroid like body named Centra. No colonization movement has been made by the
rabbits on this moon yet.
As of yet, the rabbits have not gathered
enough information on the outer planets and their moons to warrant
colonization, but it is hoped that the outer 7 planets will be colonized by the
end of the millennium.
TIMELINE IN RABBIT HISTORY
80 – Most ancient recording of rabbit history. A tablet records the celebration of the
formation of the
142 – First clash recorded between the
343 to 890 – No more recordings found between these
dates. It is believed this was a Dark
Age.
1390 – The Carrot wars begin over a territory dispute. The fighting would last for close to 20
years.
1423 – The Jackrabbit Empire invades the Rommol
republic, another large empire. The capital Rommol
falls 3 years later, starting the rise of the Jackrabbit Empire.
1520 – After the assassination of the Emperor, the succession wars
start in the Jackrabbit Empire. Fighting from within creates invasion opportunities
for outside parties and nomadic bands of rabbits, and the Jackrabbit Empire is
no more in 1528.
1798 – The founding of the
1901 – The collapse of the Danasian
Empire from rebellions. The Communist rebels form the Cottontail Union.
1923 – Rabbitearth experiences its First World War, known as “The
Great Dispute”. Economic pressure and
depletion of resources causes the war to end 9 years later in an armed truce.
1941 – The first demonstration of a nuclear bomb built by the
Cottontail Union. The bomb leveled an abandoned town to display its
effectiveness. Raising concerns over the possibility of the Union using these
bombs causes a cold war between the Cottontail Union and the Lopear Republic that went on to 2009.
1957 – The
1962 – The first manned space shuttle reaches orbit. This is led soon after by the construction of
a space station completed in 1972.
1974 – Despite actions taken by the URC, “The Second Great Dispute”
breaks out. Advances in technology make this war the
bloodiest in Rabbitearth history.
1987 – Once again weary of war, the Second Great Dispute ends with
no real winner. The war nearly brought nuclear destruction to Rabbitearth.
1994 – The opening of the Intercarrot
Space station.
2003 – The first colony is set up on Morana.
Massive territory disputes over the colony’s territory leads to the formation
of the Rabbit Colonial Government (RCG) in 2005.
2009 – Refusal to declare war on other countries for moon territory
divides the Cottontail Union government. After a short civil war, the new “Head
Comrade” orders dismantling of several nuclear silos around the world, ending
the Cold War with the
2015 – Tanaria is colonized
2050 – Minerva is colonized
2055 – The WestStar station is completed. The station is the first station to have all
its systems completely controlled by a computer.
2090 – Aliens appear on Tanaria, and
systematically destroy colonies. The Exosian war
lasted two years before generals ended the threat with orbital
bombardment.
2120 – Zeus is colonized
2145 – The Iron war begins.
