Welcome to the Hood

[10.29.02] It was reality check time for the Slugs in week 8 when they missed the exit to downtown and ended up in the hood. It was a close one, probably only because Seattle's big guns, Tomlinson and Faulk, were both out on bye. The Hoodlems took full advantage and with a huge game out of Jeff Garcia was able to defeat Seattle 92-87.

Early season surprise leaders are now starting to fall closer to where predicted. Rocko, after an amazing start, has now lost three straight when they got blasted by the Owens led Rhode Island Ridicule 103-81. Timbuktu, another early leader, was upset by Detroit. The Drive had an excellent game when all but three of their players scored in double digits. W. Palm Beach hit a road block in the Vikings. Kalamazoo was thankful that their poor performance still resulted in a win. In the big expansion matchup, Baltimore lost to England 93-56. England has been on a roll and Baltimore seems to only be able to play the spoiler roll and not able to win the games that count in order to make it to the playoffs. Wisconsin, with their win over Green Bay, was able to move into first place. The Fudgepackers were overmatched as all of their big guns from the NFL Packers were on bye.

Caught under the Tiger's Paw

[11.05.02] It looked as though Seattle should have had an easy time with the Rocko Bengals, but that was not the case in this week 9. Rocko had an average day by their standards, scoring 88 points. The Slugs on the other hand, could have easily won the game with a substitution at quarterback especially when all they needed was one point. Seattle owner Jabin Q. has been quoted as saying, "I will be doomed forever. A QB is something I will never have. EVER!!!". This quote and other comments about Brad Johnson that cannot be repeated on this family friendly site show Seattle's frustration with their quarterback play.

In the other big loss of the week, Wisconsin greatly missed their top two runningbacks S. Davis and P. Holmes this week when they lost to the Hoodlems in a low scoring affair 69-60. Benton Harbor has been riddled with injures this year and things got worse when D. Alexander left the game and looks to be out for an extended time. Kalamazoo was very pleased to see both Wisconsin and Seattle losing because they now have grasped first place with a win over England. Kalamazoo isn't the only team riding a strong winning streak. Rhode Island extended their winning streak to four with a win over W. Palm Beach. Timbuktu kept their playoff hopes alive when they beat down Green Bay 75-33. In the big expansion matchup of two teams desperate for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, Baltimore squeeked out a very close game against Detroit 78-76.

Coach of the Week: Rhode Island

Coaches Challenged

[11.12.02] It is a first this week as for the first time since keeping the new "Coaches" stat that one of our teams dropped into negative numbers. After recieving a heavy penalty for starting players on a bye week two teams, Timbuktu and Green Bay, both recieved a very bad coaching score to reflect their poor choices even though it didn't affect their respective games. Timbuktu blew out their other half, Benton Harbor, 91-56 with of a huge game out of Gannon. Green Bay wasn't so lucky as they were blown out by the expansion Detroit Drive.

The two hottest teams in the last few weeks are still red hot. Rhode Island continued to ride their hot streak moving up into 4th place with their win over England. Kalamazoo weathered a horrible coaching day to beat Baltimore. Baltimore, who had previously beaten every team that was in first place at the time had the Vikings worried up until the last game Sunday. Wisconsin, another team looking playoff bound, squeeked out a close one against Rocko 113-101. Seattle jumped back into the win column this week after a two week hiatus to beat W. Palm Beach. With only four games left, anything can happen as the "divisions" face off in the final three weeks? Will Rhode Island be able to hold onto fourth place? Will Rocko or Benton Harbor be able to earn their first trip to the playoffs? Who will get the number one seed? Those questions may not be answered until after week 14.

Left Out to Spoil

[11.22.02] Green Bay finally got off the slide when they all but killed Benton Harbor's hopes at a playoff spot with their 74-73 win in week 11. Benton Harbor will need a lot of help in order to make the playoffs now and Green Bay looks to spoil some more hopes in the upcoming weeks as their season will surely end after week 14.

In the other games, Seattle just all out dominated England 125-40. Rhode Island continued their winning streak by taking out Baltimore while scoring the most points of the week 128-79. Kalamazoo inched even closer to a playoff spot when they were able to secure the win against Detroit. Wisconsin kept pace with Kalamazoo by easily taking care of the other expansion team W. Palm Beach. During this game, Priest Holmes broke Marshal Faulk's single season runningback record. In the game of the week, Timbuktu and Rocko played down to the wire with Rocko pulling out the close matchup 73-70. This will probably have a serious impact on the playoff picture as Rocko continue's their quest to earn their first playoff appearance.

Wisconsin Sweeps Slugs

[11.27.02] In the biggest matchup of week 12, Wisconsin put Seattle's playoff hopes in serious jeopardy by beating the former two time champions 128-94. The loss of Marshall Faulk left a serious hole in their high powered lineup when they needed it the most and there is a possibility that he might miss the next game against Kalamazoo. Wisconsin moved closer and has all but guarenteed themselves a playoff spot with the win.

In the other big game of the week against two of the top four teams, Kalamazoo came up on the short end of the stick against Rhode Island due to the huge game out of Owens. Kalamazoo hopes to rebound against their rival Seattle and knock the Slugs closer to being out of playoff contention. Benton Harbor became officially eliminated from the playoff chase when they lost to Timbuktu 107-99. The win keeps the Buccaneer's playoff hopes alive barely, but will need a lot of help and huge games to make them a reality. Rocko barely kept up with the pack when she beat the injury plagued Fudgepacker team 59-42. Rocko obviously is hurting from the loss of McNabb for the rest of the fantasy year and is pinning their playoff hopes on the arm of Brooks. The race to be the best expansion team is starting to heat up. England completed their sweep of Baltimore 95-82. Detroit also completed a sweep of their own against W. Palm Beach when they beat the Chads 110-83.

Player of the Week: Priest Holmes (RB-Wis)
Coach of the Week: England

Fuzzy Wuzzy

[12.03.02] The playoff picture was supose to be clearer this week than last, but it got even more fuzzy. Five teams have nine wins and none of them have yet to earn a trip to the playoffs yet. Topping the list this week is the Rhode Island Ridicule. The win in week 13 against a Wisconsin team they tied earlier in the season gave the Ridicule the best chance to make the playoffs out of the five.

In other games, Rocko inched closer to their first ever playoff spot by adding to their franchise record number of wins when they beat Benton Harbor 102-83. Rocko can earn a spot in the playoffs by simply winning against Timbuktu in week 14. Timbuktu was officially knocked out of playoff contention when they failed to win against Green Bay who is just looking to upset whomever they can get their hands on lately. Detroit beat Baltimore by scoring the second most points of the week 126-78. The Drive also secured themselves a tougher schedule next year by moving up into the second grouping of teams (in the twelve team format). Detroit looks to be ready for the added challenge as so far they have scored the 5th most fantasy points this year. The other expansion matchup this week was the battle between the Chads and the Teasers with the Chads coming out on top 99-45.

In the big matchup this week the two winningest franchises in league history faced off in a battle for their playoff lives. Kalamazoo was not able to overcome the near record setting score that Seattle's Tomlinson posted as they lost 128-115. Seattle has now forced their arch rival Kalamazoo in a do or die game in week 14. In fact, both teams must win or be in danger of being excluded from the playoffs if Rocko wins in week 14.

Player of the Week: LaDainian Tomlinson (RB-Sea)
Coach of the Week: Rocko

Changing of the Guard

[12.10.02] For the first time in league history there is a team other than Seattle or Kalamazoo at the top of the final standings. With a huge win, Rhode Island secured the number one seed and sent Seattle home without a chance to defend their Puck Bowl victory from last year. Rhode Island rode a huge game out of Owens to defeat the Seattle Slimy Slugs 104-98. The loss, along with a Kalamazoo win dropped Seattle just short of a playoff spot for the first time in franchise history. Speaking of Kalamazoo, they managed to secure a win and a playoff spot by defeating the always dangerous Wisconsin team 120-95. Let us not forget the amazing Rocko Bengals. Rocko, managed by a seven year old with inmeasurable luck was able to get the win they needed against Timbuktu to earn their first trip to the playoffs. Rocko, thought to be a sinking ship after the loss of McNabb, hasn't missed much of a beat due to a high quality backup in Brooks.

In the other games that will help determine draft position, Green Bay was destroyed by Benton Harbor 49-107. The loss drops the Fudgepackers into last place and the only team not to pass the one thousand point mark this year. England has been a thorn in Detroit's side all season and that didn't change in week 14. England completed the sweep of Detroit this year when they beat the Drive 112-96. Baltimore also saved themselves from being at the bottom of the standings with a win over W. Palm Beach 64-56. They were not however able to shake off the stigma of having the worst first season of the class of 2002 expansion teams.
