Playoff Preview

[12.14.02] For the first time, the playoffs are without the Seattle Slimy Slugs but include the Rocko Bengals. Kalamazoo is the only team that has been able to make it to the playoffs every year, although Wisconsin and Rhode Island are starting to call the playoffs home after three straight years of being deemed worthy of racing for the Bribin Cup. With Seattle out, fans of PWFFL are going to be treated with a brand new matchup for Puck Bowl glory.

In the first match-up, regular season champion Rhode Island Ridicule continues their rivalry against the Wisconsin Wannabes. During the regular season, these teams met twice. In the first match-up, both teams tied although Rhode Island seemed to have sported the better roster at the time. This tie transformed the landscape of the playoff race, because without it Seattle would have most likely made the playoffs and the losing team would be out right now. In the second match-up between these two powerhouses just a couple weeks ago, Rhode Island took care of business convincingly 105-78. Wisconsin seems to be mainly a one-man show of Priest Holmes, so if Holmes can have a big game, Wisconsin may be able to assure themselves a place in the Puck Bowl. Rhode Island is no pushover however. Rhode Island is on a nine game winning streak this season and needs another big day out of PWFFL rookie Pennington and the Eagles defense to make up for their ailing runningbacks.

The two teams vying for the other spot in the Puck Bowl are Kalamazoo and Rocko. Kalamazoo is familiar to winning their first playoff game of each year as they have made the previous three Puck Bowls. Rocko, a newbie to the playoffs, plans on ending the Vikings' streak. The Bengals' big weapon is luck. Rocko does not have any superstar players by any means, but made it to the playoffs by scoring just enough to beat their opponent. With the loss of McNabb earlier in the season, this seven-year-old fantasy genius needs for Brooks to stay healthy enough to keep pace with Kalamazoo's healthy QB's. Kalamazoo is posed and ready to capture their second Bribin Cup. The Vikings' owner Puck has been seen strutting around very cocky about his chances of making it past Rocko. Kalamazoo has reason to worry, because in the week seven match-up between these two teams, the Vikings just barely squeaked out a victory over Rocko 99-95 due to the bad play of Culpepper that week. One has to wonder if Puck is looking past Rocko and eyeing the winner of the Ridicule/Wannabe game.
