Northern Michigan Yoopers

(MARQUETTE, MI) The old saying goes, one can build a good franchise out of a bad team, but its impossible to build a good team out of a bad franchise. If thats true, then the PWFFLs newest teamthe Northern Michigan Yoopersis going about it the right way.

Despite having 12 of the 2003 drafts first 13 picks, its going to be difficult for owner Jon to field a competitive team. In the PWFFL, that goes without saying. But it appears as if Yoopers management has prepared for the long termby keeping the fans happy even if the football stinks.

Step onto the Yoopers expansive facilities in Marquette, and youll find a plush, 70,000-seat stadium where the ushers are polite, the cheerleaders are sexy, and the gold and crystal of the 30 luxury suites ooze first-class. This reporter actually spent a good long soak in the stadiums Olympic-sized hot tub before touring the rest of the complex.

The hot tub is actually separate from the adjacent water park, which is open even during away games. Its already drawn close to 2500 visitors a day, clearing the way for a bundle of revenue for the Yoopers to build on.

Theres a reason why I decided to locate the new franchise here, Jon told the media at the facilities grand opening. Property values in this area are CHEAP! I mean, look at what Ive already built! This complex will draw fans from miles away!
While the Yoopers have gone full first-class in every aspect so far, there still arent any players aroundand that side of things may not be first-class. While rookies like WR Charles Rogers and RB Larry Johnson will immediately be available, Jon will have to rely on an abundance of depth from some of the other ownerswho may be forced to let key players go for the sake of parity. Then again, Jon has a reputation in many football circles for uncovering diamonds in the rough, so the Yoopers might be more competitive in 2003 than many experts realize.

In the meantime, fans can soak up the comfortable stadium seats, the fresh Lake Michigan Whitefish at the concession stands, and the 100-foot water slidewhile they wait for their team to get good.
