[02.08.03] The Wisconsin Wannabes and the Seattle Slimy Slugs came to terms on a trade late Friday night that will send Brian Griese (QB-Den) and Wisconsin's 14th selection in the 2003 draft (14.9 #165) to Seattle. In return, Wisconsin will acquire Curtis Martin (RB-NYJ) and Seattle's 16th selection in 2003 (16.8 #188). This trade was confirmed and accepted by the League President today after a phone conversation with Seattle's owner and an email from Wisconsin.
Brian Griese is starting to become the journeyman quarterback being passed from team to team every season. Griese first started his journey in Green Bay when, near the end of the 2000 season, he was cut by the Fudgepackers in a move that was only discribed as shocking. Kalamazoo quickly picked him up from the waiver wire in an attempt to keep him out of the hands of their arch rival Seattle. During the 2002 offseason, Griese was part of the first trade is PWFFL history. On his new team, the Wisconsin Wannabes, Griese spent most of the 2002 season sitting on the bench. He came off the bench to relieve Brett Favre in week 8 and scored eight fantasy points.
Curtis Martin is one of the more decorated players in PWFFL history. He ranks 9th on the all-time fantasy point scoring list. Martin's 552 points is second to ex-teammate Marshall Faulk in scoring for runningbacks in PWFFL history. Martin comes to Wisconsin wearing two championship rings he earn playing on Puck Bowl champion teams in 1999 and 2001.
Neither organizations could be reached for comments. The President of the League, Puck, stated on the Official PWFFL Message Board, "It is a fair trade for both sides, so it has been accepted." He later went on to say, "It looks like the trade of that 4th rounder last year landed ol' (Wisconsin) a good runningback when all was said and done." in reference to Wisconsin's trade with Kalamazoo last year.
