Prez's Picks The 2003 season gets underway this week and after what transpired last year with Rhode Island winning the Puck Bowl facing what can only be described as the first Cinderella team in PWFFL, the Rocko Bengals, anything is bound to happen. To get everyone hyped up, President Puck dishes out "The Prez Picks", a look at how the teams in PWFFL match up with each other. Rhode Island The current Bribin Cup holders, the Ridicule are riding a nine-game regular season winning streak. Manning leads the way of QBs, but questionable FA pickup Brees backs him up with the loss of Pennington. The real jem of the champs are their special teams (TE, K, Def) with the number one overall with the Eagles D and Vanderjagt captians of that unit.
QB: 8, WR: 3, RB: 6, Spec: 1, Overall: 3 Kalamazoo The only team in PWFFL history to earn a playoff berth every year is poised to do it again with a stellar cast that is not only great, but has great depth. The deepest area is at runningback where all of the bench players could be starting on a number of PWFFL teams. Special Teams are generally a concern for the Vikings, but this year they have a solid cast of proven veterans that gives this team the best chance to hoist the Bribin Cup at year's end.
QB: 3, WR: 1, RB: 1, Spec: 5, Overall: 1 Rocko Coming off a Cinderella season in 2002, the Rocko Bengals arn't going to surprise anyone this year. Their once great runningback depth disappeared over the offseason with Micheal Bennett going down with a serious leg injury. Having the best one-two punch at QB helped propell the Bengals to the Puck Bowl last year and they have a chance to do it again, although their tough schedule will likely prevent them from doing so.
QB: 1, WR: 8, RB: 5, Spec: 7, Overall: 5 Wisconsin The Wannabes enter 2003 with a lot to prove and a lot of pressure to produce this year as owner Sue has become frustrated with her teams' lack of playoff success. She bolstered her runningback core and with Priest Holmes leading the way, Wisconsin has one of the best backfields in the game. The questionable quarterbacking is what brings Wisconsin's value down because they gave a substanial drop-off when long time veteran Brett Favre was traded out of town.
QB: 11, WR: 10, RB: 2, Spec: 9, Overall: 6 Seattle The Slimy Slugs are coming off a very disappointing season because they missed the playoffs, but earned the Pimp Cup for scoring the most points in 2002. Seattle looks to have returned to playoff form with one of the easiest schedules and an all-star cast to back it up. Barring any injuries, Seattle will be one of the most dangerous teams in the PWFFL this year.
QB: 5, WR: 5, RB: 3, Spec: 10, Overall: 4 Timbuktu The only thing that has seemed to keep Timbuktu out of contention of a playoff spot is the relaxed nature of owner Jock. The pieces are all there for a run, from QB Rich Gannon, to the best defense in PWFFL history the Tampa Bay Unit. Questions at who will run the ball in Timbuktu with Stewart's injury, and who will backup Gannon in case of injury makes gives the Buccaneers long odds to make it to the Puck Bowl this year.
QB: 10, WR: 9, RB: 7, Spec: 6, Overall: 9 Benton Harbor The Hoodlems started to get a hang of fantasy football after going 0-14 in 2001. A Strong cast of quarterbacks gives the Hoodlems a chance to win although their runningback core is the worst in the league. It will be hard to call the Hoodlems Bribin Cup champions this year, but they could very well impact the race to the playofs.
QB: 2, WR: 6, RB: 12, Spec: 8, Overall: 8 Detroit Owner Bob has built himself a strong team that could contend for the title as early as this year. Although the Drive took a hit when Mike Vick went down in the preseason, Bledsoe will carry the load very well until Vick returns to form. Detroit also sports the second best special team units and Wide Reciever corps in the league. There is a strong chance that the Drive are on the highway to the playoffs this year.
QB: 7, WR: 2, RB: 4, Spec: 2, Overall: 2 England Another expansion team from 2002, the Teasers have built a solid team together around three good quarterbacks and Deuce McAllister. Depth at runningback could be costly to England, also by sporting one of the worst starting wide reciever corps in the league. Besides that, the Teasers should be competative with an easy schedule and may even get lucky to be the Cinderella team of 2003
QB: 4, WR: 12, RB: 8, Spec: 3, Overall: 10 W. Palm Beach The Chads are starting to become known for their quick finger on trigger to push players out of town, leading some to call him the Steve Spurrier of the PWFFL. The Chads are lucky that they didn't get rid of one man though, Clinton Portis. He leads a backfield of a rag-tag group that puts together points, but won't wow anyone. Be able to play Green Bay and Northern Michigan twice will help pad W. Palm Beach's record, to give them a respectable finish to the season.
QB: 6, WR: 4, RB: 9, Spec: 11, Overall: 7 Green Bay The Fudgepackers have spent four years trying to figure this game out and it looks to be another long season in Green Bay. Although they will be close in a few games, the F-Pack will just be outmusculed for most of the season, leading them to fight with N. Michigan for the first draft pick in 2004.
QB: 9, WR: 11, RB: 10, Spec: 4, Overall: 12 Northern Michigan Expansion teams have never really taken off in the PWFFL and its not looking good for the newest one this season. Although the Yoopers' Wide Reciever core is respecable, they sacrificed a lot of the present for the future in N. Michigan. The quarterbacks are mostly rookies or unstellar players, and the special teams have a lot to be desired. Owner Jon will pull this team together to avoid going 0-14, but it will be an uphill battle in the 12 other games that the Yoopers don't play Green Bay.
QB: 12, WR: 7, RB: 11, Spec: 12, Overall: 11 |
