Party Time In Kalamazoo

(Kalamazoo, MI) The dust is still settling early on Sunday morning in the aftermath of the fifth annual Puck's World Fantasy Football League (PWFFL) Draft at the PWFFL Headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan. President Puck decided to open the new offices with a bang by inviting all of the local owners for a draft party on Saturday evening. When linked up with the Wisconsin satellite offices in Madison, Wisconsin and a direct link to "da" Yooper HQ, it was the largest ever attendance of a PWFFL Live Draft.

The draft was not scheduled to start until six o'clock Saturday evening, but Jon of the N. Michigan Yoopers, who owned the first 5 picks, started things off early that day by selecting Stacey Mack (RB-Hou) first overall. In what was a surprising development to most of the league, Jamal Lewis (RB-Bal) and Peerless Price (WR-Atl) both fell to Kalamazoo owner, Puck at number six overall.

After the selection of Lewis by Kalamazoo, a N. Michigan spokesman confessed, "We screwed oop, our group is a running so many drafts that we had got confused and thawt da (Lewis) was already taken." PWFFL offices reported that early this morning, N. Michigan fired their secretary of scouting for the mess up. "This has never and will never happen again in da Yooper camp, we do not tolerate such in-in-in.. stupid stuff."

The first owner to arrive at the PWFFL offices was Seattle Slimy Slugs Jabin. He seemed surprisingly calm and moved about the newly acquired offices quite fluidly from the start, this added to the rumors that he hired slug spies earlier in the month to spy on PWFFL confidential papers. Shortly after his arrival, Rhode Is. and Rocko owners arrived on site, followed by Green Bay Fudgepackers owner Dave S.

On the menu for the pre-draft dinner was grilled hot dogs, a deli platter that included cheese and sliced meat cut from Jabin's supermarket chain, varieties of beverages, M&M type candies, roasted nuts, deviled eggs, fried chicken, fruit salad, and for dessert cheese cake. The PWFFL staff, including the cooks and the day care operators, was getting notably drunk as the night went on, until they were ordered to go home after eight o'clock.

The draft started officially at six o'clock eastern with the first 12 picks flying off the board thanks to the Yoopers pre-drafting. Benton Harbor was then on the clock, but had yet to arrive with future husband Timbuktu owner Jock. President Puck then used the default system to pick for them until they arrived shortly before seven o'clock.

The Yoopers had Seattle in a frenzy when a N. Michigan took four quarterbacks before he had a chance to select, most notable were Carson Palmer and Jake Plummer. The Slugs, who last year came out of the draft with five quarterbacks left with only a moderate three quarterbacks this year after selecting Kordell Stewart (Chi) and Doug Johnson (Atl). Asked what the strategy of the Slugs was going to be heading into the draft, the caught Slug spy later revealed that it was to get a young QB to hold onto for the future. From the looks of things, the Yoopers made Jabin re-adjust his plans.

Meanwhile at the party, things were starting to get out of hand. With Dave S. trying to do last minute updating of his draft list, both Jabin and Rhode Is owner Libzie were trying to kick him off the second computer so they could chat with the Wisconsin site and do research of their own. Meanwhile Rocko owner, Willa, was happily watching the second Harry Potter movie and when that was over tried to watch it again, but was stopped by the roaring guests as they just couldn't sit through it a second time in a row.

Reports out of Wisconsin have told that the England-Detroit rivalry is heating up even more after the draft. Apparently David W, England, was picking players that the Drive was about to pick up early in the draft. Detroit and England face off for the only time in Week 4. Also, the Wannabes were very upset when Kalamazoo took Jason Elam (K-Den) in the 13th round. Elam had been a stable in the Wannabe camp since 1999 and became a free agent for the first time since the 2000 draft.

The draft lasted for four hours with the last pick #117 Andre Davis (WR-Cle) being taken by the Green Bay Fudgepackers a couple minutes after ten o'clock Eastern Time. Dave S, was the first to leave the party around 8:30, before the draft had concluded. Apparently the tussle over the second computer had worn him out. The rest of the owners left the PWFFL offices within a couple hours of the draft concluding, sitting around chatting while the Detroit Lions spanked the Cleveland Browns.
