                                   Section-A                                       Marks : 20

1 (a) What do you understand by load computation and voltage computation ?
   (b) Discuss the disadvantagge of Cycloconverter.
   (c) Draw the volt-ampere characteristics of SCR as a function of gate current.
   (d) Draw the circuit of fire an SCR using UJT.
   (e) Usually, triac is triggered by a diac, why ?
   (f) What is closed loop control system ? Explain.
   (g) What are the advantages of dielectric heating.?
   (h) Explain pulse width modulation system.
   (i) Discuss why a "free wheeling" diode is often used in motor control.
   (j) draw a half-wave SCR circuit.

2. What is the principle of induction heating ? Duscuss any one type of induction furnace.
3. Explain with the help of circuit diagram the working of a single phase full-wave half controlled bridge rectifier
    using two SCRs and two doides.
4. How is the power control achieved in a chopper control drive ?
5. Explain in detail any two conventional methods of speed control of D.C. motor.
6. With the aid of circuit diagram, explain the working of step down chopper.

7. What is Cycloconverter ? Draw the basic circuit of single phase cycloconverter producing single phase power
    and explain its working. Draw the output waveforms for resistive and inductive load.
8. Explain the working of 3-phase fully controlled rectifier, sketching the current and voltage waveforms. Derive
    the expression for the output voltage.
9.(a) Explain the working of SMPS with the hepl of schematic diagram.
   (b) Write technical note on series connection of SCR's
