EC-402 TV ENGINEERING (B.Tech 8th Semester,2052) Time : 3 Hours Maximum Marks : 60 NOTE:- This paper consist of Three Sections. Section A is compulsory. Do any Four questions from Section B and any two questions from Section C Section-A Marks : 20 1(a) What is a raster and how it is produced on the screen ? (b) Why is FM is preferred to Am for sound signal transmission ? (c) What are synchronization pulses and why are they needed ? (d) How is the illusion of the continuity created in TV pictures ? (e) What do you understand by interlaced scanning ? (f) Why has the frame reception rate been choosen to be 25 and not 24 as in motion pictures ? (g) Draw a composite video signal wawe form for the picture information . (h) Enumerate various advantages and disadvantages of vestigial side band transmission . (i) What is photoelectric effect in video cameras? (j) What do you understand by dark current in vidicon ? Section-B Marks:5 Each 2. What is portion of the lower side band of AM picture signal transmitted along with the carrier and full VSB ? Does it need any correction some where in the TV link ? If so, where is it carried out? 3. Draw cross sectional view of an image orthicon camera tube and explain how it develops video signal when light from any screen is foused on its face plate. 4. What do you understand by an image rejection ratio? Explain how by providing an RF amplifier , image signal reception is greately minimised. What are other merits of using an RF amplifier beforew the frequency converter? 5. What precuations must be observed while handling the picture tube ? Why is it necessary to provide sperk gap protection between the various electrodes ? 6. Describe the basic principle of AGC and show how it is applied to tube and transistor amplifiers. Section-C Marks : 10 Each 7. Explain with circuit diagram how the high voltage pulses , induced in the output transformer windings , are used to generate EHT supply. 8. Explain the following terms: (a) Chrominance (b)Luminance (c) Compatability in TV recievers (d) Hue (e) Saturation. 9. Write short notes on any two of the following: (a) PAL System (b) TV studio (c) VHF Tuner |
