IC-252 CONTROL AND INSTRUMENTATION (B.Tech 4th Semester,2122) Time : 3 Hours Maximum Marks : 60 NOTE:- This paper consist of Three Sections. Section A is compulsory. Do any Four questions from Section B and any two questions from Section C Section-A Marks : 20 1(a) How many parameters characise a zero order, a first order and a 2nd order system? (b) Cite some examples of closed loop systems. In what circumstances they will turn into open-loop systems? (c) Is transfer function (T.F.) definanle for nonlinear systems? Can initial conditions be non-zero while defining T.F. ? (d) Name some sensors for temperature measurement and the typical ranges. (e) What do you understand by gdin margin ? If a system has GM = -15 dB, comment upon its stability. (f) Define steady state error. (g) Name some I.C. sensors. (h) Define Stability. (i) Is there any difference(s) in time responses of 1st and 2nd order systems ? What are those differences? Section-B Marks:5 Each 2. An instrument has Transfer function: T.F. = 1/s + 2 Determine its time constant. Also find its time (for a tolerance band of 5%). When subjected to a step input. 3. Find the overall transfer function of the following system: ![]() s5 + 5s4 + 4s3 + 3s2 + 2s + 1 = 0. 5. (a) Whether a traffic control system is an open loop or closed loop system? if open loop, then what additionally must be done to make it closed loop system. How can this additional thing be inplemented? (b) A system has a gain margin of 20 dB. How much increse in system gain can be done before causing it to be unstable? 6. A system has open loop transfer function G(s)H(s) = 1/s(s2 + 2s = 1). Find the error constants kp, kv and ka. Section-C Marks : 10 Each 7. Discuss a velocity measurement scheme, its construction and operation. 8. Draw Bode Plot for: G(s) = s/(3s + 1)(s + 5) and find gain margin and phase margin. 9. Write short notes on: (a) Flow measurement (b) Temperature measurement |
