Indigo
Mindy's Memory Primate Sanctuary (www.mindysmem.org) is proud to welcome its newest resident. Finally, on June 24th at about 11:30 at night Indigo arrived, after a very long day of travel. He was exhausted, so he ate a banana, took a big drink of water and went to sleep. Indigo is a physically challenged 9 year old Rhesus Macaque, who has just been retired from a research facility. We are thankful that they offered him retirement as opposed to euthanizing him. On his first day of retirement there were so many new things for him to experience. He does not have the use of his legs. While he cannot walk, he can waddle around, sort of like a duck. He waddled over to the side of his enclosure and began watching the other monkeys. There were so many new foods to try. He is certain of one thing, he does not like sweet potatoes. Indigo is enthralled with the sanctuary dogs. A ramp has been built to allow him access to his hut. While he is currently being housed by himself, we are hoping that one day he will be able to be placed with other monkeys.

Photos of Indigo enjoying his first days of retirement can be viewed at:
