Beaten Horse |
On May 6, 2001, Severiano Baltazar, age 36, beat his horse to death. According to the police report, he was intoxicated. Witnesses said that he whipped and kicked his horse until he fell backwards onto a car and dropped dead.. Witnesses did call the police, and Baltazar was arrested. Baltazar is charged with one count of PC 597 Cruelty to Animals, one count of HS 11377 Possession of Methamphetamine, two counts of riding a horse while intoxicated and one count of VC 13004 Possession of a fraudulent or Counterfeit ID Card. The maximum amount of time Baltazar can spend in jail is THREE years and eight months. Here is a chance for everyone to send letters urging that this man go to prison for the MAXIMUM time allowed, as animal cruelty is not acceptable. Baltazar was unable to post bail of $75,000 and is still in jail. He has two options-he can plead guilty to all charges above and be sentenced, OR plead not guilty and go to trial. PLEASE write a letter to the District Attorney's office in San Bernardino County and let them know that this atrocity will not be tolerated by a civilized society.
