Reward Increased in Glassport, PA Animal Cruelty Case |
FLANDERS, N.J. (October 10, 2001) - The Humane Society of the United States has added $2,500 to a reward for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for apparently setting fire to a male cat in Glassport, Pa. on or about Sept. 17. The total reward money available is now $3,500. The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society responded to the initial report of a cat found burned at the city's former dump. Officer Dan Pici retrieved the cat, who is now receiving veterinary care for severe burns to his entire body. His feet were badly burned and his whiskers burned off. The HSUS reward is in addition to $500 offered by the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society and $500 offered by an anonymous donor. The groups hope that the reward will encourage someone to come forward to testify against a 19-year-old man identified in four separate tips as the perpetrator. "The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented," said Barbara Dyer of The HSUS's Mid-Atlantic Regional Office. "I hope that this reward will encourage someone to come forward." Anyone with information is asked to contact the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society at (412) 751-2010.
