Fun is part of our life. Some times we come across some incidents which
are interesting and funny. Here in this page I would like to share with
you some funny/interesting incidents that I came across. I don't claim
that it will make you laugh. I posted this in my page because I enjoy
recollecting those incidents and to make my site interesting.
Some incidents though I found it funny, are not listed here 'coz its difficult
to put it words and some may be offensive to certain people.
Life in Calcutta
I went to Calcutta for an important assignment. My interest to do the assignment made me forget other essential requirements including the language. I dont know both Hindi and Bengala. My colleagues thought me some important sentences like "I don't know Hindi". Our company provides transportation. One fine day there is a statewide strike, so no office bus, no minibus (private bus), no taxi and no autos. Only the government buses were functioning
I board the bus and took a ticket to "Jadhavpur Thane". I dint know how many stops to go for that stop. After nearly ten stops, I was curious to know how many stops left for my stop. I was wondering how to ask the conductor to tell me when my stop comes. I went to the conductor and told him "Jadhavpur Thane". He is a good person and replied amicably in Bengala. Slowly I interrupted him and told him "I don't know Bengala" in Hindi. He passed a smile and then started speaking in Hindi (I think). I interrupted him again and told him "I don't know Hindi" in Hindi. He got shocked and his body language also changed he then told me something in a caring voice, he also showed hand signs. I was confident that he would let me know when my stop comes. After some time he was busy and paid no attention to me. I want to remind him and I went near him and told him "Jadhavpur Thane". He told me some thing, I passed a smile and came back to my place. This happened many times and his voice became louder every time I asked him. After some time he reached the breaking point and he put a crying face and begged me in English, "Please! Please, I tell you Jadhavpur Thane, coming". I thought he understood me and so I was standing near the footsteps of the bus. After 2 stops came my stop. Suddenly nearly 7 or 8 persons in the bus told "Jadhavpur Thane" all at the same time and some pointed the footsteps to me. I was excited and shocked to hear all telling my stop. I got down and waved hands to all of them, all with a smiling face waved back at me.
My Experiment with Cooking
Cooking is an art. Making Indian dishes is a skill. Frankly, learning software technologies is much easier then learning to cook. Though I love trying different cuisines and eating out at fast food restaurant, the ability to prepare food always fascinated me. I am not all that bad in cooking, I can prepare ice cubes, hot water, appalam (papads), Indian curd and Chinese shushi all by myself. Many of my friends helped me when I first started cooking. They thought me some dishes and I tried it with my best efforts (pls dont ask how was the food). Now that I can do some cooking my ambition pushed me to try one of my favorite dish "dosa". Dosa also called as dosai is a south Indian dish that is thin, round in shape, can be crispy or soft, prepared using a pan and served hot. In short dosa is a yardstick, which test your cooking skills.

I gathered information about how to prepare dosa from my friends. I got the readymade mix and took many printouts of the procedures my friends told and those from various Indian sites. I started the cooking on Saturday morning, and followed the procedures. I was so confident about the procedures and the cooking that I asked my roommates to wait for the dosa. First I was planning to get the shape correct. So when I poured the flour on the pan I tried my best to give dosa the shape. All my efforts failed so I changed my approach, to prepare something to eat. I was carefully watching the process that took place, as the procedure says that "wait till you see some smoke near the edges of dosa and turn the dosa to the next side". I was waiting for some time and nothing happened, I grew curious and after a while some smoke came. I thought of waiting little further and get it wells cooked. So after few seconds, I saw the pan. Amazingly the dosa disappeared. Lot of smoke came from the pan, so I switched the pan off and rushed to open the windows. I returned to the pan and try to use the steel spoon to remove the dosa. After a tough fight I removed the carbon out of the pan. I was confidence and went on to try many dosas and filled the trash. Finally we went out to have our breakfast. Now I understood cooking Indian food is difficult, and if I master I will add it to my resume under the heading 'Special Skills'.
