The Most Frequenly Asked Questions How can I become a member? Do I have to be a Psychology Major to be a member? What does the Psychological Society do? Where and when are the meetings? What is a �Recognizable Senior�? Why don't I receive emails on meeting & events? How can I become a member? You can become a member by most importantly paying your dues! It is very important for you to pay your dues otherwise you are not considered an official member and therefore do not receive the privileges and rights of, �Official Members�. You also must show an interest in the field of psychology, participate actively with the organization, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. top Do I have to be a Psychology Major to be a member? As much as we love our Psyc Majors, being one is not a requirement. We know that there are plenty of other majors that enjoy psychology and we would never turn them down! top What does the Psychological Society do? As an organization it is our intent and purpose to provide students with educational as well as entertaining activities within the realm of psychology. We aim to serve as a forum for students to discuss psychology, it�s related issues as well as how it affects student life. This organization also seeks to provide students with exposure and insight into the different areas of psychology, volunteer opportunities, graduate programs, and prospective employment opportunities. While having fun along the way! top Where and when are the meetings? The meeting location is usually in room 336 of the CLT. However, if our meeting conflicts with the rooms class schedule, the meeting will be moved to a location to be announced. The times also vary. We attempt to have two meetings a month. One hosted by the Vice President on the 1st Monday of each month at 7:30pm. And the second hosted by the Secratary on the 1st Tuesday of the each month at 3:30pm. Again these dates are not set in stone. If the room or officer�s schedule conflicts with the time, the meeting will be scheduled accordingly. It�s always best to check our calendar for the most current information about our meetings. top What makes a person an �Official Member�? An official member is a active member that has paid there dues. At the end of each year awards are handed out to, �Official Members� if you have not paid your dues, no matter how active you are with the organization, you will not be recognized. top Why do I have to pay dues? Paying dues helps your organization function. Homecoming, fairs, educational trips, guest speakers and events like bowling are expenses we can cover if ever member pays their dues. Otherwise we would have to constantly ask members to pay for events. Not to mention forfeit other opportunities in the aforementioned. top When are dues due? Dues are due the month after you turn in your application. If you still have not paid your dues you are not considered an official member. However, you can still be active with the Psychological Society. top How much are dues? Dues are only $10.00 for the entire year. The dues are annual, meaning each member who has paid there dues this year are cover for the 2006-2007 school year however, the 2007-2008 school year dues will need to be paid again. top How can I order a Psy Society Tee Shirt? Ordering a tee shirt is easy, just come to a meeting! However, if you are the only one who wants a tee shirt, you may have to wait until more orders come in; there is a minimum of five tee shirts requests needed to place an order. top How much are the Psy Society Tee Shirts? Tee Shirts are $20.00. The shirts are black and the lettering and symbol are sewn on so you are paying for quality shirts. We are not making a profit from the shirts. The $20.00 covers the black shirt and the stitching. You must be an official member to order one. top What is a �Recognizable Senior�? In order to be considered a recognizable senior and eligible for the recognition of this honor you must attend at least 85% of the meetings, participate actively with the organization, have paid your dues, and be a graduating senior of that particular school year. By doing so you are eligible for graduation cords to wear during graduation as well as a certificate of appreciation at the end of the year. top Why don't I receive emails on meeting & events If you find that you are no longer receiving email from us that means you are not apart of our yahoo group. At the bottom of this page is a link, click it and join the "psysociety" group through Yahoo(c). Once you do so, you will receive all emails pertaining to the Psychological Society. top |
