A legacy to SW: Dark Forces and SW: Jedi Knight, Jedi
Knight II became one of the best First Person Shooters to
ever been released. Raven Software and Lucas Arts put
together a masterpiece that is both fun for Star Wars fans
and general gamers alike. It's multiplayer and fan base
community has enhanced it's re-playability factor which
makes it a game that will stay on many gamers computers for
months or even years to come.
Single Player-
The single player storyline centers around the character of
Kyle Katarn and his partner, Jan. Agents of the New
Republic, they were sent on a mission by Mon Motha to check
activity on a supposed abandoned Imperial Outpost. They
soon find out that Remnant forces have been quite busy in
the outpost. Kyle and Jan were sent in to investigate.
After clearing out the outpost, they were lead to a mining
planet where Kyle soon discovered a dark Jedi, Desann, and
his apprentice, Tavion, where behind the Remnant activity.
The dark Jedi captured Jan and Kyle now needs help from the
force to aid in the hunt for Desann and to rescue Jan. It
turns out there is more that meets the eye. Desann is on a
crusade to create an army of lightsaber wielding and force
using soldiers. After being led to the Jedi Valley,
Desann's plan continued with success.
The game goes on to play many different missions on a
variety of levels. No, you don't receive force powers or a
lightsaber in the beginning but those come later in the
game. One of the only complaints of the game is the way the
puzzles are integrated in the game. Sometimes it can
become frustrating and sometimes you will just wander
around trying to figure out what to do.
Despite the depth the game and fun lightsaber combat, it
all sums up in the end with a lackluster ending. I
expected something better then what was placed as a finale.
Although the last saber duel is challenging and fun I
admit.
Multiplayer-
The Multiplayer aspect of JK2 is it's best feature. The
various game types, levels, weapons and most importantly,
lightsaber combat, enhance the game's replayability.
Such Game types feature dueling where one on one fights
occur on a small level or arena. All the while the others
are spectator and watching a spectacular duel. Of course
there is the usual FFA games and capture the flag that
always seem to be of tradition to FPS games.
One of the most unique and fun aspects of multiplayer is
the saber combat. Being one of the first games that I have
seen to utilize melee in a sci-fi FPS game like this, it
actually works well. With the addition of 8 force powers
such as push, pull and lightning...you will feel very
powerful being like a Jedi knight. Like seen in the movies,
you can block laser blaster shots...making traditional
weapons not necessarily useless but not over powered.
As with many good multiplayer games, we can't forget the
nice fan base it brings...whom are kind of enough to make
models, skins and mods to share with the rest of the
community.
All in all, the game delivers with a grand fun factor and
impressive Jedi kicking, lightsaber action. I will assure
you, this game will stay on my machine for times to come.
