| Space Camp, Blow by Blow with Excerpts from the Journal of Allison Cawrse Continued . . . When we got back to MOCR, we had a "gas leak" and everyone but two people in MOCR passed out. I was one that got to pass out. Ace was the only one left standing healthy. Sarah was still conscious but had the symptoms of the gas leak. Ace was freaking out cause he was all alone and was suppose to be telling the MS's what to do on their EVA but couldn't because he was trying to find out what was wrong. With Meredith's help he realized that there was a gas leak and then with more help realized he needed to call the "gas company". So he called and was given a hard time on the phone. Then when the guy finally showed up, it took him forever to figure out where the leak was and as he was fixing it, he passed out too. Ace was really freaked out now and didn't know what to do. He, again with Meredith's help realized that he needed to give the guy oxygen so he took out an oxygen mask from the medical kit and revived him. He fixed the lead and left. Then Sarah went around with the mask and made everyone else better. Now, in all this Ace was reading the wrong instructions to the MS's. There's two sets of instructions, one for the one hour mission and one for the EDM, he was reading the one hour mission so they had to start over. Then across his screen this sign appeared, "Read out loud: I we Todd did." All of MOCR got a good laugh and he felt really stupid. After that the mission went smoothly except for not landing straight, but oh well, we wanted a new orbiter anyway, right?? Later today we had our indoor portion of Area 51. There was only one task we didn't finish, but we did really well on all the rest. The rest of the day went quick. We turned in our flight suits, hung out in the museum, went to the computer lab where I e-mailed my friends with greetings since they had e-mail blocked, and we reflected on the EDM. Friday, July 23, 2004 It's the end. We filled out evaluations, packed, went to the gift shop and had graduation. I was really surprised at graduation because we got best average mission score!! I can't believe it!! We were so far behind before the Delta mission, I guess we really worked hard that time, and the EDM wasn't graded so it had to have been Delta mission. Today was so depressing, I didn't want to leave. I love it here so much. I don't mind the weather, I like Oregon weather better but I'd survive Alabama weather if I could stay. Being here is just so . . .me! I love it! I'm with lots of people who share my interests and who I can have really good conversations with without feeling like I might be boring them. I can't believe this is my last time, I'm going to miss this so much. I'm looking forward to going home for my bed, bathroom, clean cloths, computer, bunny, and friends, but I'll still miss this terribly. It just isn't the same. After graduation we went to the botanical gardens and Mom and Dad told me about their week and Dad's accident. His eyes are all black an blue now. Then we went to Charlie's for lunch which was right across from the motel. I had a french dip sandwich. We also went and saw King Arthur and had desert at TGI Friday's because we were still pretty full from lunch, then headed back to the motel. When we got there I went for a swim in the pool until it was taken over by little kids. It's nice to have a comfy bed again, not my bed but better than camp beds. Saturday, July 24, 2004 Plane rides today. I read a lot in the airports and on the plane. We had window seats every time. I was either reading or looking out the window. We had some really strong turbulence on the last flight, scared me for a bit. The plane just sort of jerked to one side and we dropped altitude. I thought something might have been wrong but it was just a really powerful cloud. We made it home, first thing I did was bring my bags in, visit my bunny and get on the computer. The end, lol. |
