| The ingredients for an upset were there. The recipe was laid out. The appliances were available and the kitchen was open. All the Washington State Cougars had to do was follow the directions and they could cook up a victory in Boulder, CO. Bon Apptit. The Cougars opened the game by scoring 20 first quarter points and never looked back in their route of the #17 ranked Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday. As nicely outlined in PSU Preview's Recipe for an Upset, the Buffaloes were coming off of two fourth quarter wins and the emotional and physical impact appeared to be too much to overcome. "We gave up a lot of big plays, a lot of stupid plays, and you can't do that against a team like this," Colorado Head Coach Gary Barnett said after the game. "We just had a breakdown. Whether or not it was two emotional games, I'm not sure. We coaches felt during the week that the guys were emotionally drained." Leading 23-13 at the half, the Cougars took the second-half kickoff 97 yards for touchdown and followed that by scoring another 7 points after a Buffalo turnover. In total, the Cougars put up 24 points over a six-minute period in the second half to end the Buffaloes chances at a comeback. The Buffaloes shut out the Cougars in the fourth quarter and put up seven of their own points, but it wouldnt be enough as they fell 47-26.
