Child
Labor Summary |
Child
labor is a serious and alarming problem. In many parts of the world, not
only in developing countries but also in developed regions, the children
are abusively forced to work. The conditions under which children work
harm them physically and psychologically. The
major reasons that lead to the problem are poverty and the lack of education.
When poor parents are not able to repay their debt, their children are
sent to work for loaners to pay off the debt. The children, who have only
the least education, therefore, have no choice in their life but to agree
to work long hours under dangerous working conditions. Child labor is
always an attractive source of labor because firstly, to employers, they
can be hired at the far lower rates. To the children themselves, their
wages contribute to a large part of a family’s income. And finally
compared to adults, children often get paid more than adults do when working
on the street. Although
it is unlikely that the problem can be eliminated, two goals should be
reached. First, children have to be removed from dangerous working condition.
Then, the compulsory education, the most effective tool to prevent child
labor problem, should be provided to all children. |
