History of the Professional Singles Network

In November 1990 Sonny Dukes organized a meeting to discuss the idea of publishing a singles magazine with the working title Successful Singles of Wichita. By the time the first issue of the magazine was published in February 1991, the name had been changed to Professional Singles Journal.
The premiere issue of the Professional Singles Journal was published in February 1991 as "a guide to clubs, restaurants, entertainment and monthly activities for area singles". The first executive editor was Rose C. The journal listed activities and events of interest to singles both hosted and not hosted by PSN. Van A. designed the eagle head logo that is used in the Journal (shown at the top of this page).

The Professional Singles Network started with 25 members but quickly grew to 100 members by the end of the first month. The first 'friendship dance mixer' hosted by PSN was on February 23, 1991. Nearly 250 singles attended the dance that was held in the Marriott Hotel Grand Ballroom near Webb and Kellogg. The next dance, on March 23 of that year, drew 329 singles!
The first Kansas Singles Expo and friendship dance mixer was held April 26, 1991.
The dances soon were increased to twice a month and were held at various places around Wichita, including the Caprice Ballroom and the Cotillion. PSN hosted 39 dances in 1992 with a combined attendance of more than 6,400 singles.

Between 1992 and 1994 PSN chapters were started in Topeka and Dodge City.

Other PSN activities in the early years included card parties, bingo, lunches, bowling, covered dish dinners, picnics, attending Wichita Wings games, visits to the Comedy Club, game parties, VCR parties, a trip to the Kansas Cosmosphere, a trip to the Remington House Racing Park in OKC and even a couple of cruises!

In 1994 PSN produced a weekly TV talk show on UHF Channel 55 for eight weeks.

The year 2002 was a very special one for PSN. Not only was it the 10th anniversary of the group but it was also the year that saw the 75th issue of the Professional Singles Journal and the 500th Friendship Dance Mixer

Many people have been instrumental in making PSN the great group that it is today. You can read more about them on the VIP page. PSN is also involved in various charitable activities.
