PSN Dances

Although PSN has various types of activities, the dances are the heart of the group. There is a wide variety of music played at each dance so there is something for everyone. There is quite a bit of music from the 60's and contemporary country along with little bits of other stuff. Whether it is fast or slow the music is positive and upbeat and will leave you with a good feeling even if you don't like to dance.

There is not need to be nervous even if it has been a long time since you danced or you don't know any of the newer dances. Many new PSN members haven't danced in years so you will not be alone.
Almost anyone can fake their way through the slow dances that we all did in high school and the faster ones you will catch on to after a while. The park board and other places in town have dance classes on a regular basis.

If you are an expert dancer that is fine, too. There are some PSN members that are quite good at just about any types of dance. A few of the dances that I have seen done at PSN dances are: the two-step, country swing , the waltz, country line dances (the Tush Push and Electric Slide, I think) and several others I don't know the name of yet.
Here is some terminology that might help newbies understand what is going on:
Waterfall - This usually lasts through two slow songs. Men line up on one side and women on the other. The numbers do not have to be equal. The lines merge and form couples and start dancing to the other end of the dance floor. When they reach the other end they separate and walk back to the starting point and get a new partner. Because of the different speeds people dance and the possible difference in the number of men and women you generally dance with several different partners.
Circle Dance - Usually this is done to a fairly fast song. Everyone who wants to dance forms a circle and dances on their own without a partner. Someone is supposed to be in the middle at all times. After they get tired of being in the center they approach someone else who then goes to the middle for a while.Rose Dance - At the beginning one or men and one or two women have roses. After everyone starts to dance the people with the roses cut in on other couples by giving the rose to the person they are cutting in on. That person repeats the process and so on.
Sunburst - Whenever the D.J. announces "sunburst", the dancing couples part and each person selects a new partner from among those not yet dancing. This usually goes through two slow dances.
