Valmet Model 82
During the 1980's Valmet imported several types of AK style rifles into the United States.  One of the most radical designs was the Valmet Model 82 bullpup rifle.

The Valmet Model 82 is a semi-automatic AK47 type action installed in a bullpup stock.  The rifle uses Valmet .223 magazines, which in 2003 are very expensive and difficult to find here in the United States.

One unique feature of the Model 82 are the rifle sights, which are offset to the left side of the rifle.  The short overall length of this weapon makes it an excellent truck gun.  Unfortunatlely the current price for a semi-automatic Valmet 82 is $1500+, making this a substantial investment.

The only drawback to this design is the choice of a fiberglass stock.  Apparently early versions of the Model 82 were prone to stock cracking, leading to a replacement stock with metal reinforcements.

Also, there seems to be limited choices regarding mounting optical sights on the Valmet Model 82.  With the current trend to install red dot or low power optical scopes on bullpup rifles - the Valmet 82 design does show it's age.
