"That was the very first glass box building that went up in Auckland and, at first, I thought it was a fabulous building. Then I saw the Police Station staring down from the top of the ridge. The image I ended up making, with the Phoenix Palms on either side, was something to do with Fascist monuments, something to do with the political directions that the country was taking at the time."
