My work arising from a lifetime living in Auckland, draws on things remembered, observed and imagined. Although the paintings may appear to be records of actual places they are subjective and selective compositions. I have excluded figures,automobiles, street signs or anything that I feel would create a sense of narrative which would work against my attempts to create still images. I want my work to convey the calm timelessness of dream or memory. In my paintings, I am hoping to form some sense of order from the experiences of over sixty years living in a city which sprawls over a narrow volcanic isthmus.
